Itinerary

Day 1

Meeting at Basecamp Hotel, Longyearbyen, at 9:00 am to be introduced to your guide and get a short briefing about your upcoming Arctic adventure trip and what equipment will be required. After obtaining the required equipment and changing into suitable apparel your boat safari towards Billefjorden and Nordenskiöld Lodge will commence.Along the way you are likely to encounter a range of Arctic wildlife including puffins, seals and even belugas. After a while of paddling through the Arctic waters we will arrive in the inner part of Billefjorden and the majestic Nordenskiöld glacier will come in to sight. This is where we will find the Nordenskiöld Lodge, our accommodation for the duration of the trip. This basecamp is set right in the middle of the glacier moraine and is the northernmost cabin hotel in Spitsbergen. Upon arrival we will settle into our rooms and, weather permitting, lunch will be served on the terrace overlooking the Nordenskiöld glacier in the middle of the Arctic wilderness.

The rest of the afternoon will be spent getting more familiar with your equipment and learning and practising kayaking techniques taught by skilled and experienced guides. In the evening a beautiful dinner will be served and guests are free to relax in the stunning surroundings and prepare for the next day of adventures. Accommodation is provided in comfortable double rooms at the Nordenskiöld Lodge.

Day 2

After a delicious and filling breakfast it will be time to set off again. Once everyone has dressed in their equipment and the kayaks are ready to go we will paddle north towards Rundmosepynten, cross petuniabukta and continue to the Russian mining town of Pyramiden, also known as the ghost town of Svalbard. When we reach Pyramiden lunch will be provided and there will be opportunity to stretch your legs and explore some of this intriguing ghost town. Once lunch has finished we will start our kayaking journey back to theNordenskiöld Lodge.

After a full day of kayaking on the fresh blue seas of the Arctic a warm and delicious dinner awaits along with the comfort and cosiness of the lodge. At Nordenskiöld Lodge there is a sauna available for those who wish to warm their bones after a long day in the great outdoors or for the more adventurous a quick swim in the ocean is guaranteed to get the adrenalin rushing. Again accommodation is provided in comfortable double rooms at the Nordenskiöld Lodge.

Day 3

Once breakfast has been devoured the kayaking trip will recommence as we head back to sea. Today we will be making our way to the far side of Adolfbukta, enjoying the experience of paddling alongside the magnificent bright blue floating glacier ice. Whilst we paddle through the seas it is highly likely to encounter seals lazing on the ice, the most curious of the creatures are often known to approach the kayaks to check out what’s happening and introduce themselves.

Today lunch will be provided in Brucebyen, a small settlement 5km from the lodge. After everyone has been sufficiently refuelled it is time to head back to the lodge for our last night and where once again a beautiful meal will be provided and time taken to reflect on the thrilling adventures that have been experienced so far. Again accommodation is provided in comfortable double rooms at the Nordenskiöld Lodge.

Day 4

Day 4 marks the last day of this thrilling summer Arctic adventure but there is still time to make one more kayaking trip before heading back to civilisation. A short trip will be made to the stunning glacier front in search of sightings of seals and belugas before returning to the Lodge for a final lunch and a chance to say goodbye to the new friends you are certain to have made. Once everyone is packed and ready to leave we will set off on our paddle back to Longyearbyen full of excitement, smiles and memories.
