Our popularitinerary Suggestions
All our itinerary holidays are fully customisable
Embark Silver Explorer and bid farewell to Tierra del Fuego, the 'Land at the End of the World'. This evening, after settling in and setting sail, you will be introduced to your Expedition Team.
At Sea - Drake Passage
The Drake Passage has a notorious reputation for its turbulent seas due to the Antarctic Convergence, a natural boundary where cold polar water flows northward and warmer equatorial water moves southward. When they meet, nutrients are pushed to the surface, often attracting a multitude of seabirds and whales. Spend some time on deck watching the horizon and the variety of seabirds that glide in the air currents of our ship's wake such as the black-browed albatross, sooty shearwaters and white-chinned petrels. Have your camera ready to capture the magical colour of a midnight sunset.
As we set sail on our initial transit, familiarise yourself with the elegant Silver Explorer and the friendly Expedition Team members. Attend wildlife, geography and history discussions hosted by our expert naturalists and guest lecturers that will prepare you for the exciting adventures that lie ahead. When available, visit the Bridge and meet our Captain and officers; information will be posted in the daily onboard newsletter.
We spend these days sailing along the coast of the Peninsula and visiting islands and landing sites, taking in the profusion of wildlife, the magnificent scenery and some scientific settlements or bases. We hope to visit Brown Bluff, Paulet island, Cuverville Island, spectacular Paradise Bay, the British post office at Port Lockroy and volcanic Deception Island. We expect to see myriad birdlife, including snowy sheathbills, blue-eyed shags, kelp gulls, snow, cape and Wilson's storm petrels, skuas and terns, as well as lots of penguins. We will also look out for leopard and other seals as well as whales.
At Sea - Drake Passage
Navigating our return through the Drake Passage, we will watch for seabirds and wildlife we may have missed on the first trip. Take this opportunity to attend additional presentations offered by the Expedition Team lecturers and to swap photos with new friends as we travel towards Ushuaia.
After breakfast, disembark Silver Explorer and transfer to Ushuaia International Airport for your return flight to Buenos Aires.
A view from Above
Silver Explorer was built as an expedition vessel with ice strengthened hull. Silversea, purchased it and undertook a complete refurbishment to convert it into a luxury vessel with standards of comfort and service to match other ships in the Silversea fleet, including cuisine by Relais & Chateaux, staterooms and suites with marble baths and butler service. All 66 staterooms and suites on board are of a high standard. There is one restaurant serving buffet or table service breakfasts and lunches and a la carte dinners; room service is available at all times. There is also a lecture theatre, a well stocked library, a lounge bar with humidor and a lounge/observation deck. Beverage service is also fully inclusive of non-premium liquor (although there is a high threshold before a premium standard is reached!). Apart from the expert lecture programme, entertainment is limited to an evening pianist, some home-grown performances by the crew and in-cabin satellite TV and DVD. There is also a small spa and fitness centre, a sauna and two decktop hot tubs. Polar travellers receive a complimentary parka and water resistant backpack.

Now that I am back from my odyssey voyage, I thought I would let you know that after all that planning it really did exceed my expectations – we managed landings everywhere even on Tristan da Cuhna and had great bird sightings. The guides all knew what they were talking about too and made sure I got some great photos – still sorting them all out! Thanks for everything and see you at Birdfair!Dave Martin
Overall I think that it was an excellent trip that was well worth the price paid and I would have no hesitation recommending your company to others.Steve Sutton
Just a quick note to express my sincere thanks to you and all your staff for making this an epic adventure of immense proportions. Everything went smoothly, pickups, hotels and most of all the expedition itself. Truly a mind blowing experience unlike any I have ever taken.Mr J Borg, Malta
