Antarctica Marine Mammals Special 14 days
Antarctica Marine Mammals Special 14 days
Aboard: RCGS Resolute
This special Antarctica itinerary departs in mid March, meaning you will be travelling at the perfect time for optimum whale watching experiences. March is well regarded as being the best time to spot large pods of these majestic mammals as they stock up on feeding in preparation for their migrations to warmer climates. As an itinerary specially dedicated to whale watching and whale science, we will visit several known locations along the Antarctic Peninsula that are the focus of long-term research projects and will be joined onboard by several world-renowned whale experts. This will allow us up-close access to their important work and they will be only to happy to share their scientific data and analysis with us. For anyone with an interest in studying the behaviour of marine mammals this is absolutely the ideal expedition!
Although our focus will be on observing Antarctica’s bustling whale populations, there will be much more than whales to keep you entertained. Charting a classic course along the Peninsula and into the Weddell Sea, we will visit some of the continent’s most remarkable landing sites to discover a world of towering glaciers, majestic icebergs, snow-covered mountains and bustling wildlife. Exploring each day on foot or by Zodiac boat you can go in search of Antarctica’s other enchanting wildlife, including busy penguin colonies and various species of seals, visit historic huts and research bases, enjoy energetic walks across the glistening landscapes or partake in additional activities such as kayaking and hiking.
Sailing from Stanley, the charming capital of the Falklands, we will journey towards the bottom of the world to reach Antarctica, stopping at the legendary Elephant Island along the way. Each day will be filled with adventure, and being accompanied by a team of expert guides you will soon learn all there is to know about this remarkable continent and its wildlife residents.
Please note: This itinerary includes a charter flight from Santiago to Stanley. This special flight is exclusive to guests on this fantastic voyage and will allow you to get a taste of the Falkland Islands before your exploration of Antarctica. Now that I am back from my odyssey voyage, I thought I would let you know that after all that planning it really did exceed my expectations – we managed landings everywhere even on Tristan da Cuhna and had great bird sightings. The guides all knew what they were talking about too and made sure I got some great photos – still sorting them all out! Thanks for everything and see you at Birdfair!
Dave MartinOverall I think that it was an excellent trip that was well worth the price paid and I would have no hesitation recommending your company to others.
Steve SuttonJust a quick note to express my sincere thanks to you and all your staff for making this an epic adventure of immense proportions. Everything went smoothly, pickups, hotels and most of all the expedition itself. Truly a mind blowing experience unlike any I have ever taken.
