Ushuaia - Embark
1Day

Ushuaia - Embark

Your Antarctica trip begins in Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city, where having arrived independently you will make your way to the port to board your expedition vessel in the afternoon. As you settle in to your comfortable home for the next 17 nights, we will set sail through the incredibly scenic Beagle Channel and begin our journey.

You may wish to arrive in Ushuaia a couple of days before departure to allow you time to explore this quaint city and the hiker’s paradise of nearby Tierra del Fuego. Please enquire should you require any advice or help in organising this.

At Sea Towards the Falkland Islands
2Day

At Sea Towards the Falkland Islands

We now spend a day at sea sailing towards the beautifully remote Falkland Islands. Make sure to spend some time on deck looking for marine life in these incredibly rich waters, with whales, seals and penguins regularly spotted in good numbers around the islands thanks to the cold Antarctic waters meeting the warmer waters of the South Atlantic. Your fantastic programme of expert lectures and presentations will also begin, introducing you to the fascinating history, biology and culture of the islands.

The Falkland Islands
3 - 4Days

The Falkland Islands

Our first day in the Falklands will see us enjoy a brief exploration around some of the outer-lying islands to discover their wild and remote landscapes and wildlife including Southern Rockhopper Penguins, Black-Browed Albatross and King Cormorants. Islands we may visit include West Point, Carcass and Saunders. Other species you can hope to see include the endearingly cheeky Striated Caracara, commerson's dolphins and South American sealions.

The following morning, we will anchor in the sheltered natural harbour of Port Stanley, The Falklands’ charming capital, where we will hop on the Zodiac boats to make our way to the centre. Enjoy a memorable day walking around this pleasant town where South American and British cultures and architecture combine. Be sure to visit the Christchurch Cathedral, the southernmost Anglican cathedral on Earth! Enjoy a browse through the local shops, take an obligatory picture with the red telephone and post boxes, enjoy a relaxing café lunch or fish and chips in a traditional pub, visit the excellent museums, or venture a little further afield to the several nearby beaches where abundant penguins frolic along the spectacular gold-white sands.

At Sea Towards South Georgia
5 - 6Days

At Sea Towards South Georgia

Leaving the Falkland Islands behind, prepare for your next adventure as we spend 2 enjoyable days at sea sailing towards magical South Georgia. Enjoy the continuation of your in-depth lecture program, now focusing on the fascinating history, biology and wildlife of South Georgia, and spend time on deck looking for marine life and abundant birdlife as we enter the Furious Fifties, the stretch of powerful waters marking the entry to Antarctic waters.

South Georgia
7 - 9Days

South Georgia

Welcome to the indescribable wildlife paradise of South Georgia, one of the most spectacular wildlife destinations on the planet. Spend three days here soaking up the sights, sounds (and smells!) of hundreds of thousands of King Penguins vying for space with the imposing southern elephant seals along the storm-washed beaches, surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of jagged mountains, glaciers and icebound peaks. A simply incomparable experience!

In true expedition fashion, your itinerary here will be flexible and dictated in part by the weather and sea conditions, with your experienced captain and crew assessing each day to bring you the best experiences possible here. Likely excursion options here include the vast penguin colonies of Salisbury Plain and St Andrew's Bay, the former whaling stations of Lieth and Stromness, the picturesque scenery and seal colonies of Gold Harbour, and fascinating Grytviken where you can learn more about the island’s exploration heritage and visit the final resting place of legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. One thing is for certain, South Georgia is a place that will hold a special place in your heart forever.

At Sea to Antarctica
10 - 11Days

At Sea to Antarctica

We now make our way towards Antarctica for the final adventure of your voyage. Spend time on deck watching out for humungous icebergs appearing on the horizon, join fascinating lectures on the wildlife, geology and exploration history of Antarctica, and prepare to set foot on the world’s simply enchanting 7th continent.

Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetland Islands
12 - 15Days

Antarctic Peninsula & South Shetland Islands

Welcome to Antarctica, an incomparable region that simply needs to be seen to be believed! As the bright white of the Peninsula creeps on to the horizon and the wildlife presence starts to multiply again, you’ll know you have truly arrived in Antarctica. It’s time to really discover this isolated wildlife paradise, as you experience thousands of lively penguins, including gentoo, Adelie and macaroni, large seal colonies, multiple seabirds, and marine mammals.

With no set itinerary, we will explore in true expedition spirit. Each day your experienced crew and captain will assess weather conditions and adventure opportunities to ensure optimal wildlife and scenic experiences.

Our projected route will see us visit areas where wildlife abounds and scenic photo opportunities are endless. We will likely explore first the mysterious South Shetland Islands, a chain of rugged rocks marking the northernmost point of Antarctica. It is also one of the richest in terms of wildlife, with large Gentoo and Chinstrap Penguin colonies, and an abundance of large seabirds such as predatory Giant Petrels. Landing sites which may be visited in the South Shetland Islands include the black steaming sands and rusting ruins of Deception Island (an active volcanic crater), the bustling penguin colonies of Aitcho and Half Moon Islands, or the old sealers' anchorage of Yankee Harbour.

Places we may visit around the Antarctic Peninsula itself include Cuverville Island where leopard, fur and Weddell seals are likely to greet us, the Gerlache Strait where we have the best chances of spotting whales, the incredibly beautiful Paradise Bay where a walk on land is likely to take your breath away, and the wonderful Lemaire Channel where the excitement of the marvellous scenery is matched only by the possibility of spotting orcas in the surrounding waters. We also plan to sail into the breathtaking Antarctic Sound.

Each day you will enjoy unforgettable shore visits and Zodiac cruises designed to showcase to you everything that this remarkable area has to offer. Your photo workshop will teach you how to capture the perfect pictures and kayaking excursions will also be available for an additional cost.

At Sea - Drake Passage
16 - 17Days

At Sea - Drake Passage

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Antarctica as we make our way into the Drake Passage for our return journey to Ushuaia. Relax in the comfortable surroundings of your ship with a drink and chat with your new-found friends, join the activities designed to commemorate your trip, enjoy the last of the lecture and presentation programme, or spend time collating and editing the countless pictures you will have taken.

Ushuaia - Disembark
18Day

Ushuaia - Disembark

Having sailed through the Beagle Channel overnight, we will arrive back in Ushuaia in the morning and disembark after breakfast. There are multiple options available for extending your stay in South America, including discovering more of Argentina and trips into Brazil. Now that I am back from my odyssey voyage, I thought I would let you know that after all that planning it really did exceed my expectations – we managed landings everywhere even on Tristan da Cuhna and had great bird sightings. The guides all knew what they were talking about too and made sure I got some great photos – still sorting them all out! Thanks for everything and see you at Birdfair!

Just a quick note to express my sincere thanks to you and all your staff for making this an epic adventure of immense proportions. Everything went smoothly, pickups, hotels and most of all the expedition itself. Truly a mind blowing experience unlike any I have ever taken.
