In Wildfoot’s memorable 2019 interview, Doug spoke openly about the realities of working in the polar regions, describing the patience, resilience and curiosity that shaped a career spent documenting some of the most remote environments on Earth. His work on landmark series such as The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet brought global audiences closer to the polar world and set new standards for natural history filmmaking. News of his death at 74, while trekking in Nepal, has prompted tributes from across the conservation and filmmaking communities. Many have highlighted not only his technical skill, but also his generosity, humour, and willingness to share his experience with travellers, students, and aspiring filmmakers. Wildfoot Travel valued his insight and the clarity with which he communicated the importance of the polar regions.
