THAT’S IN BETWEEN
From the Atatcama Desert to the lakes and glaciers of Patagonia, Chile is there to explore
Chile is a destination in its own right or often an extra before or after an Antarctic or Falklands expedition. Patagonia includes the lakes, mountains and glaciers of the southern Andes, the Torres del Paine National Park and Cape Horn, whilst far to the north is the Atacama. Top 5 reasons to visit Chile
- Long, diverse, multi-cultural country
- Atacama Desert
- Lakes, mountains and glaciers of Patagonia
- Vibrant cities such as Valparaiso and Santiago
- Remote and intriguing Easter Island
There are regular flights from many European and American cities to the capital, Santiago, with connections to regional centres.
Before visiting Chile you should consult your local GP or health professional at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to departure so that they can advise you on up to date vaccination advice. Depending on your circumstances certain vaccinations or alternative preventive measures may be required for your trip.
The health facilities in major cities in Chile such as Santiago are known to be of a good standard, however the private clinics and hospitals tend to be expensive and adequate travel health insurance is a necessity. It is also important to ensure that you have adequate funds available to cover the initial costs of any medical treatment you may require, including repatriation costs.
Visas are not required for tourist visits by nationals of most countries, including EU, Australia, NZ, Canada and USA.
Requirements should be checked at the time of booking since these can change at short notice
Self-drive is a popular and safe option for travelling in Chile, especially in Patagonia and the Lakes area. Mix this with some guided tours and fly big distances. Easter Island is a worthwhile side-trip.
