This expedition is ideal for those who have time constraints but still wish to enjoy an authentic Antarctica experience. Departure is by flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island in the South Shetlands then return by sea to Ushuaia across the Drake Passage via Cape Horn.

Note, this itinerary does not include any landings on the Antarctic mainland

Punta Arenas
1Day

Punta Arenas

Arrival at the city of Punta Arenas where you will be met to be transferred to the hotel. Afternoon briefing on your forthcoming expedition including guidelines for visitors to Antarctica and Zodiac procedures. Later, you will be invited to gather for a welcome dinner together with your fellow expeditioners and you will have the chance to enjoy a typical Magellan menu. Overnight accommodation in hotel. You may also choose to arrive in Punta Arenas, the gateway to Patagonia, earlier and visit the nearby countryside and national park.

King George Island
2Day

King George Island

Our Antarctic adventure will begin with the two hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island (South Shetland Islands). Upon arrival, we will tour around the area where the Frei Chilean Base and the Bellingshausen Russian Base are located. We will gather at the beach on Fildes Bay for embarkation by Zodiac to our expedition vessel.

South Shetland Islands
3 - 4Days

South Shetland Islands

During these days, sail in ice-filled bays, while enjoying the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales. Board a Zodiac for a memorable shore visit to a penguin colony. Marvel at magnificent icebergs and cruise amongst the sea ice.Taking advantage of the endless Antarctic daylight, exploration will continue well into the evening.

Drake Passage
5Day

Drake Passage

Sailing back towards the mainland across the famed Drake Passage, spend time on deck watching for seabirds and whales, attend informative lectures or just relax in the lounge.

Cape Horn
6Day

Cape Horn

Today, we plan to approach the legendary Cape Horn! Weather permitting, board a Zodiac and be one of the few privileged adventurers to step foot on this famous but rarely visited island. Back on board, set sail towards the mainland.

Previously known as 'Sea Explorer', this is a purpose-built luxury expedition ship with all-suite accommodation for up to 114 passengers in a mixture of double or twin cabins and suites, each with satellite TV, DVD player, telephone, bathroom, etc. Public areas include library with internet access, lounge and presentation room, exercise room, sun-deck with Jacuzzi, passenger lift, etc. The ship has a 1C ice class rating for navigation in polar waters.
