Wild Zambia Walking Safari

Having arrived independently to Mfuwe International Airport, a safari representative will greet you in arrivals to transfer you to Nkwali Camp to begin your safari adventure. The transfer will take approximately 1 hour, and along the way you will get your first insight into this beautiful part of the world. Relax and soak up the sights as we pass by colourful villages, agricultural lands and bush areas. Upon arrival at Nkwali Camp, beautifully set on private land along the banks of the Luangwa on a magnificent meander, you can enjoy a lovely welcome lunch looking out over the lagoon.

For the rest of the day there will be ample opportunities for adventure as the camp has its own private game viewing area. There will also be afternoon and night time game drive options available. You are also likely to catch sight of leopards and elephants roaming along the banks beside the camp. After an exciting day you can lay your head down in one of the camp’s 6 beautiful and spacious chalets overlooking the river.

After an early breakfast this morning, it will be time to start your mobile walking safari, the ultimate wilderness experience of the South Luangwa. We will travel south to a distance of approximately 90km to join the mobile camp at the Mupamadzi River in one of the most remote parts of the park.

Arriving in time for lunch, your mobile camp will already be set up for you, with your well-equipped tents ready for you to drop your things off and enjoy a delicious lunch and some relaxation after the long drive. In the afternoon you can enjoy a walk around the camp before returning for sundowners and dinner in the open under Zambia’s clear starry skies.

On the morning of day 3 we will awake early to enjoy a morning walk through the most remote and wild areas of the Park. Covering a wide variety of terrains and varied habitats, you will be on the lookout for wild animals that roam here, from mighty buffalo to prides of lions. Your experienced naturalist guides will take you to areas that are rarely discovered, telling you all about the bush and its wildlife as you walk. As you walk, your team will have moved your mobile safari to your next stop which you will reach in time for lunch and a bit of relaxation before commencing your afternoon walk.

You will stay at this camp for 2 nights, enjoying long game walks each day, before moving on to camp 3 on the morning of day 5. Day 5 will take you further down the Mupamadzi River, a major tributary of the Luangwa. Each day will offer fulfilling walks accompanied by expert naturalist guides and a game scout, whilst each evening you can enjoy the comfort of your already set-up safari tents located in the heart of the bush. An authentic and thoroughly rewarding experience.

As the mobile safari element of your itinerary comes to end, its time for one final adventure as we pack up after an early breakfast to take the 5 hour drive to the Luangwa River crossing point where you will take a boat across the river to the beautiful Tena Tena Camp. Enjoying a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, the remote and intimate Tena Tena Camp is beautifully situated amongst a grove of mahogany trees. Upon arrival you will be served a delicious lunch before settling in to one of the 6 fantastic safari style tents which have private verandahs overlooking the waterhole where elephants, hippos and antelope often come to graze. After a well deserved break you can enjoy some exciting afternoon and evening game drives before settling down for your last night in the awe-inspiring South Luangwa National Park.

On the morning of day 8 you will be transferred back to Mfuwe International Airport for your onward or homeward flights.
