Amazon, Pantanal & Savannah

Having arrived independently to Brasilia airport you will be welcomed and taken to board your light aircraft for your 30 minute air transfer to to the remote Fazenda Trijunção located in the middle of the Brazilian savannah (´Cerrado´). After checking In to your comfortable suite you will have time to explore your unique surroundings and check out the wide range of activities on offer before a delicious traditional meal will be served either outside on the barbecue or in the comfortable restaurant.

Over the course of the next few days you can immerse yourself in the beauty and wildlife wonders of this unique area, the richest savannah in the world in terms of biodiversity. Activities will be arranged to make the most of every opportunity for unique scenic experiences and to observe the abundant wildlife that can be found here including the one of Brazil’s most emblematic and elusive animals, the Maned Wolf. Other unique species that can be found here include Hoary and Crab-eating fox, Six-banded armadillo, Brown-brocked and Pampas deer, Black-tufted-ear marmoset and Brazilian guinea pig as well as over 850 species of birds. Activities include nature hikes, kayak trips, night safari drives, bird watching and bike excursions. You can also visit the Onçafari research project to see the important work they do to preserve the existence of the Maned Wolf.

After breakfast on the morning of day 4 you will take your air transfer back to Brasilia airport for your flight to Alta Floresta (with a stopover in Cuiaba). Upon arrival in Alta Floresta you will transfer by road to the unique Cristalino Jungle Lodge deep in the South Amazon. This luxury ecolodge located along the clean, calm waters of the Cristalino River is home to an extreme biodiversity and is the ideal place in which to immerse yourself in a very special, off the beaten track Amazon ecosystem. Upon arrival, there will be an introduction to the lodge, the activities on offer and the wildlife you can expect to see as you walk the impressive surrounding trails over the next few days.

Over the next two days you will enjoy a number of walking trails which will take you deep into the forests in search of memorable wildlife encounters. Trails will include a walk to the 50m high canopy tower which will reward in a fantastic view of the forest from above and chances to see many species of birds including macaws and various monkeys. You can also walk to see a giant Ficus Tree and to a seasonally flooded forest where even more monkeys can be found.

On day 6 you can walk to the Saleiro House, a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve, which is often visited by a number of large forest mammals including Giant anteaters, Southern Tamandua, South American Tapir, and Collared and White-lipped Peccary. In the afternoon you can enjoy a boat ride up the river before hiking a remarkable trail surrounded by huge Brazil Nut trees and rounding off the day with a canoe or boat ride back down the river.

As well as the species mentioned above, other wildlife you can expect to see during your time in the Amazon include Capibara, Iguana, various otters and various species of monkeys including White-whiskered spider monkey, Capuchin monkey and Red-handed howler monkey.

3 nights’ accommodation in a Bungalow at Cristalino Jungle Lodge with breakfast, lunch, dinner and activities included.

After one last hike in the Tapiri Trail to see White-whiskered-spider-monkeys, the symbol of Cristalino State Park, it’s time to say goodbye to the Amazon as you take your transfer back to Alta Floresta for lunch and departure to Cuiaba where you will stay for one night before your flight to the Pantanal.

After breakfast on the morning of day 8 you will transfer back to the airport for your flight to Campo Grande where upon arrival you will transfer to the Pantanal and the fantastic Caiman Ecological Refuge. Your base for the next 3 nights will be Baiazinha Lodge with the refuge and over the course of your time here you will enjoy some exciting activities that will bring you to the heart of the Pantanal and its diverse wildlife. Wildlife you can expect to see here includes the iconic Jaguar, Hyacinth Macaw, Capibara, Anteater, Quati, Caiman and Tapir amongst many others.

Activities are guided by Caimaners who are fully trained to identify all of the Pantanal’s unique fauna and flora and have been designed to allow you to fully immerse yourself in the wonders of the area. These activities will include Canadian canoe rides, nature walks and ecological safaris. You will also have access to the conservation programme in place to preserve jaguars, hyacinth macaws and blue-fronted parrots.

After your unforgettable time in the Pantanal, on day 11 you will enjoy one final morning excursion and lunch before transferring back to the Campo Grande airport for your departure.
