Having arrived independently to Kulusuk Airport you will meet your guide and fellow travellers to enjoy a walking tour of the town to learn all about the way of life here this far north. Later in the afternoon you will all take a boat trip to boat to Apusiaajik Island where it will be time to set up camp and put your feet up for the rest of the evening.

Accommodation for the next 3 nights will be basic–participation camping where you will sleep in tents in the remote Greenland wilderness. Breakfasts and dinners will be prepared by your guide, with a little help from your group, and will be served in a mess tent. Hiking & Camping
2 - 4Days

Hiking & Camping

On the morning of day 2 you will rise early to take a morning hike to Apusiaajik glacier for stunning views of the glacier flowing down from the mountains to Torsuut Tunoq sound and into the ocean, as well as observing and learning about the climate change effects on Greenland's glaciers. Apusiaajik Island is a mountainous island in the Ammassalik archipelago and offers some incredible hiking opportunities, especially through its glaciated central area which is where the majority of our hikes will be based around. As well as many chances to enjoy the glacier and its surrounds, you will also hike through the flowing rivers and valleys of the Arctic wildflower blanketed Apusiaajiip Ilinnera Valley.

The following day you and your fellow travellers will take a boat ride through the Ikaasatisivaq strait to reach a small fjord at the foot of the iconic Niiniartivaraq mountains. Here you will set up camp again before we set off for a hike through a valley at the foot of the mountains, and a climb up a hill which will reward in stunning views over the mountains and the bay.

Day 4 brings another early start as we set off for a hike up to a 400m high ridge that separates the mightily impressive Sermilik ice fjord from our camp. When you finally reach the top, the views over this beautiful icy blue fjord and the main Greenland ice cap will be just reward for the trek. This ice fjord has some of the fastest glaciers in the world, with icebergs of all shapes and sizes calving regularly into the surrounding waters…a true sight to behold! There will be the opportunity here to learn about how climate change is dramatically affecting the fjord before continuing along the ridge and into the small hunters village of Tiniteqilaq to catch your boat back to Kulusuk, where our adventure started.

Upon arrival in Kulusuk we will check into a local hostel before enjoying a traditional Greenlandic drum dance circle which will be put on for us.

Please note: this hiking adventure will involve strenuous hikes each day across rivers and mountains. We recommend bringing your own river crossing shoes and trekking poles. In order to participate you will need to be fit and able to hike every day. There is no option to opt out of any of the hikes or excursions as, for safety reasons, travellers are not permitted to stay behind at the camp on their own.
