Kangerlussuaq
1Day

Kangerlussuaq

Having arrived independently to Kangerlussuaq, you will be warmly welcomed aboard the M/v Sea Spirit as you begin your in-depth West and South Greenland expedition. After settling in to your comfortable and familiarising yourself with the ship, you will be invited for a celebratory cocktail as your crew slip the moorings and we begin our sail through the impressively picturesque Kangerlussuaq fjord.

Please enquire for details on flights available to Kangerlussuaq.

West Greenland & Disko Bay
2 - 7Days

West Greenland & Disko Bay

Over the course of the next 6 days, we will be sailing in true expedition style along the stunning north-western coast of Greenland. Weather and ice conditions may sometimes dictate which areas are possible for landings, but your experienced captain and crew will chart a course to take full advantage of the wealth of possibilities here for unrivalled scenic, cultural and adventure experiences.

Our first adventure is likely to bring us to Sisimiut, Greenland’s second largest town. Here you can visit the Sisimiut Museum which offers fantastic insight into the local culture and a history of human habitation dating back 4,500 years, as well as enjoying a walk around the town to soak up its youthful, urban vibe and perhaps watch some of the adventure sports that are often on the go here, especially dog sledding.

Moving northwards we then reach the small town of Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island in the heart of the famous Disko Bay, known as the “birthplace of icebergs”. The first impressions of this remarkable area are likely to be “Ice, ice and more ice”! From Qeqertarsuaq you will be able to soak up the incredible views of Disko Bay’s huge icebergs and basaltic mountains, as well as enjoying a walk around the town, which was founded as a whaling station in 1773, to see its distinctive octagonal church. There will also be a number of hiking options available here of varying length to either the area’s waterfall or to the basalt cliffs.

We hope to visit the active tidewater glacier of Eqip Sermia which is located in a wild and scenic fjord that offers some incredible photo opportunities, before moving on to the town of Ilulissat which is famous for being surrounded by immense quantities of icebergs coming from the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ilulissat Icefjord. As we enjoy a walk around the area, we also recommend a visit to its Inuit Art Museum which contains a large collection of paintings by Greenlandic, Faroese, and Danish artists.
