This outstanding Scoresby Sund Aurora Borealis cruise travels into the largest fjord system in the world aboard a historic three-masted vessel. The expedition visits historic Inuit sites, sails through sensational scenery in search of Arctic wildlife like musk oxen and Arctic hares and tops it all off with a night-time sky filled with the Northern Lights.

Various departures available. A shorter variation of this trip is available, which concludes with a flight from Constable Pynt to Iceland and does not sail across the Denmark Strait.

Enjoy the sights as you sail the glaciated Volquart Boons Coast. Here you may set out a Zodiac cruise along one of the shoreline glacier fronts, with your first activity near Månegletcher or Vikingebugt.

Milne Land

Today we will sail among a multitude of giant icebergs as we travel along the east coast of Milne Land. If time and weather conditions permit, we will also hope to land at Charcot Havn to take a memorable walk to the Charcot Glacier before continuing by the Bjørneør and sailing to Øfjord.

Sailing the Fjords

Over the course of the next 4 days, we will sail amid some of the most impressive fjord landscapes in the world. Venturing into the almost 40 nautical miles long Ø Fjord, we will be surrounded on all side by incredible mountains stretching up 2,000 meters high and imposing icebergs that drift over depths of more than 1,000 meters (3,281 feet). During our time in this memorable region, we will hope to land at Jyttehavn to enjoy a hike along the misty tundra, and to sail into the equally impressive Harefjord, Rypefjord, and Rödefjord. We will then hope to land near Sydkap to enjoy the views of colossal icebergs, some of which measure over 100 meters and a kilometre long. We may also make a landing at Sakatajik to view the remains of some Thule winter houses.

Jameson Land

Jameson Land

Today we make our way to the western shores of Jameson Land to enjoy a walk along the vast, colourful tundra in search of the plentiful grazing musk oxen that is often seen here. We may also land at Tyskit Nunat, Kap Hooker or a scenic lagoon west of Kap Stewart.

Ittoqqortoormiit

Ittoqqortoormiit

Today’s stop brings us to the unique and incredibly scenic settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest settlement in Scoresbysund and one of the most remote settlements on earth. Home to around 500 inhabitants, Ittoqqortoormiit is the perfect place to gain some insight into the way of life and culture in such a remote, northern area. At the post office you can buy stamps for your postcards or just stroll around to see the sled dogs and drying skins of seals and musk oxen.

Denmark Strait

Bidding a fond farewell to Greenland, we now set sail for Akureyri in Iceland, with each night bringing new possibilities of witnessing the incredible Aurora Borealis dancing in the night skies.

SV Rembrandt van Rijn

The Rembrandt van Rijn was originally launched in 1922 and has been completely rebuilt (completed in 2011) as a three masted schooner with twin auxiliary engines. There is accommodation for 34 passengers in twin cabins, some with private facilities along with a dining and lecture room and separate bar/lounge. There is plenty of deck space and passengers are encouraged to participate in sailing duties.
