Once your ship has sailed through the Beagle Channel past the islands of Tierra del Fuego it will sail northwards into the South Atlantic Ocean towards the Falkland Islands. Keep an eye out on deck for the birdlife that follows the ship including Albatrosses, Prions, and Petrels, and there may even be spottings of whales and dolphins. Your expert onboard team will provide informative and entertaining lectures on the history, wildlife and geology of the areas you will be visiting, and you will also receive information on the environmental regulations that are in place including appropriate behaviour around the wildlife you will no doubt be encountering on your expedition.

Falkland Islands

Falkland Islands

We arrive along the remote Falkland Islands, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. This rugged archipelago offers unforgettable encounters with an astonishing variety of birdlife, making it a dream destination for birdwatchers. The surrounding waters are teeming with marine life too - keep an eye out for playful Peale’s and Commerson’s dolphins as we cruise through these pristine seas.

Our journey through the Falklands will be shaped by the weather, adding an element of adventure as we explore these windswept and secluded isles.

A highlight of our visit will be the port town of Stanley, the quaint capital which offers a distinctly British feel. Enjoy a stroll along the waterfront promenade where you’ll find the Falkland Islands Museum, the historic governor’s residence, a cathedral adorned with a dramatic whalebone arch, memorials, cosy pubs, unique local shops, and views of shipwrecks resting in the harbour - all within easy walking distance.

At Sea - Southern Ocean

The next 2 days will be spent at sea as the ship sails east towards beautiful South Georgia. On the way you will pass the remote, seabird-covered Shag Rocks, so have your camera ready on deck. This time at sea is a great opportunity to meet your fellow travellers to discuss photography techniques and experiences, and to attend some of the photography workshops available onboard. Depending on your departure date, you will be joined by expert photography guides such as Dmitry Kokh and Andy Pollard, so this is the perfect time to obtain hints and tips.

Your ship will cross the Antarctic Convergence and officially enter Antarctic waters. Your expert crew will provide lectures and presentations on the wildlife and history of South Georgia as well as briefings on bio-security procedures and the conservation efforts that are in place to protect the natural beauty of the area.

South Georgia Exploration
8 - 14Days

South Georgia Exploration

Welcome to the wildlife paradise of South Georgia Island, thought of as the best place on Earth for wildlife and landscape photographers! This exceptionally scenic wilderness is said to be home to over 100 million seabirds, including numerous species of albatross, penguins, prions, petrels, and terns, as well as over 100,000 elephant seals and three million fur seals! Your captain and photography team will take advantage of every opportunity for up-close wildlife encounters by creating a flexible itinerary for your time here, and each day the captain (and the weather) will decide which area to visit in order to get the very most from your South Georgia experience.

Likely places for exploration include Salisbury Plain and St Andrew’s Bay where penguins and seals flood the beaches jostling for a coveted spot. Don’t be surprised if your arrival is greeted by the inquisitive penguins coming up to you for a closer inspection!

The bountiful waters surrounding South Georgia are also inhabited by an increasing number of whales and you will have the chance to visit the historical whaling station of Grytviken which is also home to the South Georgia Museum. There will also be chance to visit Ernest Shackleton’s grave to pay your respects at the final resting place of this legendary polar explorer.

Your extended time on this uninhabited island will be filled with exciting Zodiac excursions, photo workshops, wildlife encounters and incredible scenery that will live long in your memory.

Now that I am back from my odyssey voyage, I thought I would let you know that after all that planning it really did exceed my expectations – we managed landings everywhere even on Tristan da Cuhna and had great bird sightings. The guides all knew what they were talking about too and made sure I got some great photos – still sorting them all out! Thanks for everything and see you at Birdfair!

Dave Martin

Just a quick note to express my sincere thanks to you and all your staff for making this an epic adventure of immense proportions. Everything went smoothly, pickups, hotels and most of all the expedition itself. Truly a mind blowing experience unlike any I have ever taken.
