Our popularitinerary Suggestions

All our itinerary holidays are fully customisable

Reykjavik - Embark
1Day

Reykjavik - Embark

Your special Greenland Solar Eclipse expedition begins in the Icelandic capital city of Reykjavik where, having arrived independently, you will make your way to the bustling harbour where your excellent expedition ship awaits. After settling in to your very comfortable cabin, and attending some mandatory safety briefings, you may wish to make your way to deck as we set sail towards the wild east coast of Greenland.

You may wish to arrive in Reykjavik a few days before your voyage to sample some of Iceland’s many wonders. Please enquire for tips and advice on how to get here, where to stay and what to do.

At Sea - Denmark Strait
2Day

At Sea - Denmark Strait

As we make our way towards Greenland your programme of entertaining and informative lectures and presentations will begin. These talks will cover everything from Greenland’s culture and history to its wildlife and fascinating geology. Briefings will prepare you for the adventures ahead, including Zodiac boat and polar bear safety, as well as advice and preparation for safely viewing tomorrow’s Solar Eclipse. Some time on deck may reward in whale and seabird sightings.

Blosseville Coast - Eclipse Day!
3Day

Blosseville Coast - Eclipse Day!

Today is the day we will have all been waiting for! It’s Eclipse day! During the early hours of the morning, your ship will approach the massive rock walls of the Blosseville Coast. Often inaccessible to less modern ships owing to the region’s almost permanent sea ice, your modern ice-strengthened vessel is more than built to manage navigation in this wild and remote area.

Thanks to intensive research carried out by the operators of your expedition, we are able to pinpoint the best possible viewing location for the eclipse, and your captain will navigate to this exact point and drop anchor around noon. You will then hop into the Zodiac boats and make your way to shore to await the viewing of this incredible natural phenomenon. The partial eclipse begins at 16:37 local time, and the totality begins at 17:37. The sun at maximum eclipse will be in the southwestern sky, unobstructed by any mountains at the mouth of the little fjord we will have made our way to. At 17:40 the first rays slip past the lunar disk to create the legendary “Diamond Ring” – and then the totality is over. The spectacle ends around 18:33 when the last fringe of the moon leaves the solar disk, and the shadow continues south toward the northern coast of Spain.

Having fully experienced this very special once-in-a-lifetime moment, we will get back onboard to enjoy a celebratory gala dinner commemorating an unforgettable day.

Blosseville Coast
4Day

Blosseville Coast

The adventures continue today as we sail south along the stunning Blosseville Coast to explore more of this incredible region that is often thought of as the most dramatic coast outside of Antarctica. If ice and weather conditions allow, we will attempt to make a shore landing at the mouth of Kangerlussuaq.

Tasiilaq, East Greenland
5Day

Tasiilaq, East Greenland

We now make our way to Tasiilaq, the largest settlement in East Greenland, which sits in a perfect natural harbour on Ammassalik Island and offers excellent opportunities to explore. Ancient customs are very prominent here and our visit offers great chance to learn about these and the Tunumiit culture. Visit the museum, located in the city's old church, hear the city's exquisite choir perform in the modern church, or watch a drum dancer in traditional East Greenlandic costume perform a millennia-old spiritual tradition. Fantastic hiking routes are also available here and you may wish to visit the Stunk Artist's Workshop, where skilled craftsmen create beautiful pieces from natural local materials.

Skjoldungen/Saqqisikuik
6Day

Skjoldungen/Saqqisikuik

Today we arrive in the staggeringly beautiful fjord of majestic Skjoldungen to enjoy some incredible vistas and walks. Uninhabited and lying almost 300km from the nearest village, Skjoldungen features vast jagged mountains lined with opalescent glaciers and at the head of the fjord we will find the magnificent Thryms Glacier and the sweeping U-shaped glacial valley of Dronning Maries Dal.

Prins Christian Sund & Aappilattoq
7Day

Prins Christian Sund & Aappilattoq

Today offers up some more memorable sailing as we traverse through the inside passage of Prins Christian Sund to enjoy a sail surrounded by steep mountainside and dramatic scenery on a journey from east to west Greenland. The sound reaches from the Atlantic coast to the settlement of Aapilattoq in the heart of the fjordlands of South West Greenland. We will stop at this small village, set amongst a backdrop of towering mountains, to sample the laidback lifestyle here, enjoy some excellent hiking opportunities, and hopefully hear a rendition from the local choir that is renowned throughout the island.

Tasermiut & Uunartoq
8Day

Tasermiut & Uunartoq

As we make our way along the southwest of the island we will arrive in stunning Tasermiut Fjord, one of Greenland's best kept secrets, where green, fertile side valleys and sheer granite walls reaching 2000m above sea level are certain to impress. These rock walls are often compared to El Chalten in Argentina, or California's Yosemite, but in reality the sheer scale of these cliffs far exceeds both, and they are a lifetime goal for the world's most expert rock climbers. Although no rock climbing will be on offer here, a Zodiac cruise to shore and an easy hike to head of the fjord will reward in some unforgettable vistas.

Moving further north, we will reach the small island of Uunartoq which is famous for its geothermal springs which you will be able to sample as we Zodiac to the island for a memorable visit. Soak in these beautiful waters with temperatures of around 34-36 degrees centigrade while icebergs float past and the surrounding natural beauty astounds. A truly unforgettable experience.

Qassiarsuk & Itilleq Kujalleq
9Day

Qassiarsuk & Itilleq Kujalleq

Today we will sail through the majestic mountains of Tunulliarfik Fjord to visit Erik the Red's Brattahlíð settlement, where the Qassiarssuk village is today. As we enjoy a wander around we will see, among many other things, a reconstruction of Tjodhildur's church, which was the first church on the North American continent, and a number of Norse ruins. Our onboard experts will offer us an insight into the vast historical significance of this area and there will be time to contemplate and learn more about why the Norse people suddenly disappeared from Greenland in the 1400s.

We will then make our way across the fjord to the small bay of Itilleq where we will take the trail to the village of Igaliku. In the afternoon you can take a trek through the lush green hills to see the remains of the Norse Bishop's palace at Garðar.

At Sea & Nuuk
10 - 11Days

At Sea & Nuuk

On day 10 you can enjoy a leisurely day at sea, sailing north along Greenland’s enchanting rugged coast. As we sail, enjoy the variety of onboard activities designed to engage the mind, body and soul. Take in specially crafted lectures on local history, wildlife, geology, culture and more delivered by your team of expert lecturers, spend time on deck scouting whales, seals and myriad seabirds, relax in the jacuzzi and enjoy a drink at the outdoor pool bar, or unwind with a massage in the Albatros Polar Spa.

On day 11 we will arrive at Greenland’s quaint and cosmopolitan capital, Nuuk. Featuring a striking blend of skyscrapers and traditional wooden houses, where modern architecture coalesces with the traditional, Nuuk offers a wealth of experiences to visitors. Nuuk exudes a lively cosmopolitan atmosphere and features some of Greenland's top attractions. Visit the Kolonihavn district to explore the Greenlandic National Museum, which houses a rich collection of historical artifacts dating back to the island's earliest inhabitants. This includes items from the Paleo-Inuit and Norse periods, as well as the fascinating Qilakistoq mummies. Immerse yourself in Greenlandic culture at Katuaq, the city's cultural centre and an architectural gem. Shop for genuine Greenlandic artworks in the city's numerous boutique stores, or unwind at a trendy café with a Greenlandic coffee, soaking in the vibrant city life. Known affectionately as Nuuk York by its proud residents, this city is truly unique within Greenland and the world.

Kangaamiut & Evighedsfjorden
12Day

Kangaamiut & Evighedsfjorden

Your final expedition day will see you arrive at the small village of Kangaamiut, an incredibly picturesque settlement in Greenland’s central Qeqqata region. We will make a landing to meet some of the locals who still live a largely traditional lifestyle, surviving by hunting and fishing. The artists of Kangaamiut are well-known throughout Greenland, and some of the locals' most splendid work can be viewed in the town's small museum. Enjoyable hikes will also be offered here rewarding in fantastic views over the town and the surrounding fjordlands.

Your last adventure will take you into the deep fjord of Evighedsfjorden / Kangerlussuatsiaq, otherwise known as 'The Eternity Fjord'. Via Zodiac boat we will explore some of this incredible natural wonder that stretches around 100km into the glacier-clad mountains and bisects the large ice cap which overlies much of the land between Nuuk and Sisimiut.

Kangerlussuaq - Fly to Keflavik or Copenhagen
13Day

Kangerlussuaq - Fly to Keflavik or Copenhagen

Your voyage concludes at the end of the mighty Kangerlussuaq Fjord where after breakfast you will disembark and take a Zodiac cruise to shore. From here you will transfer to the airport for an included flight to Copenhagen via Keflavik airport in Iceland.
