Our popularitinerary Suggestions

All our itinerary holidays are fully customisable

Reykjavik - Embark
1Day

Reykjavik - Embark

Your East Greenland expedition cruise begins in the Icelandic capital city of Reykjavik where, having arrived independently, you will make your way to the bustling harbour where your excellent expedition ship awaits. After settling in to your very comfortable cabin, and attending some mandatory safety briefings, you may wish to make your way to deck as we set sail towards the wild east coast of Greenland.

You may wish to arrive in Reykjavik a few days before your voyage to sample some of Iceland’s many wonders. Please enquire for tips and advice on how to get here, where to stay and what to do.

At Sea - Denmark Strait
2Day

At Sea - Denmark Strait

As we make our way towards Greenland your programme of entertaining and informative lectures and presentations will begin. These talks will cover everything from Greenland’s culture and history to its wildlife and fascinating geology. Briefings will prepare you for the adventures ahead, including Zodiac boat and polar bear safety. Some time on deck may reward in whale and seabird sightings, and at this time of year there will be good chances of spotting the magnificent Northern Lights dancing in the polar night sky.

Kuummiut & Ikateq
3Day

Kuummiut & Ikateq

Your first adventure in Greenland will take you to the breathtaking Ammassalik Fjord where we will make our way to the small village of Kuummiut which will offer up the first chance to sample the way of life in this remote region. Home to the only fish factory in the region, the village is relatively prosperous and busy, and offers a nice chance to relax and soak up the atmosphere while icebergs float by and whales frolic in the calm surrounding waters.

Next up we make our way to the spectacular fjord of Ikateq which is steeped in fascinating history and stands almost as a time warp to the Second World War owing to it being the location of a historic American airbase that was abandoned in 1947 and has been barely touched aside from the effects of nature on the leftover artefacts. Exploring here surrounded by the most incredible scenery is likely to be an experience to remember!

Tasiilaq
4Day

Tasiilaq

We now make our way to Tasiilaq, the largest settlement in East Greenland, which sits in a perfect natural harbour on Ammassalik Island and offers excellent opportunities to explore. Ancient customs are very prominent here and our visit offers great chance to learn about these and the Tunumiit culture. Visit the museum, located in the city's old church, hear the city's exquisite choir perform in the modern church, or watch a drum dancer in traditional East Greenlandic costume perform a millennia-old spiritual tradition. Fantastic hiking routes are also available here and you may wish to visit the Stunk Artist's Workshop, where skilled craftsmen create beautiful pieces from natural local materials.

At Sea & Ittoqqortoormiit
5 - 6Days

At Sea & Ittoqqortoormiit

On day 5 you can enjoy a leisurely day at sea, sailing north along Greenland’s enchanting rugged coast. As we sail, enjoy the variety of onboard activities designed to engage the mind, body and soul. Take in specially crafted lectures on local history, wildlife, geology, culture and more delivered by your team of expert lecturers, spend time on deck scouting whales, seals and myriad seabirds, relax in the jacuzzi and enjoy a drink at the outdoor pool bar, or unwind with a massage in the Albatros Polar Spa.

On day 6, the adventures kick up a gear as we enter the magnificent Scoresbysund, the largest and longest fjord system in the world. Our excursions here will take us to beautiful Ittoqqortoormiit, the region’s only settlement, which is recognised as being one of earth’s most remote communities. With a strong sense of community and traditional culture, you will be warmly welcomed here (perhaps with a traditional Greenlandic greeting complete with traditional costumes) as we make our way to shore via Zodiac boat and enjoy an exploration of this village set within one of the most spectacular natural locations on the planet. We will be sure to visit the excellent museum and the beautiful traditional Greenlandic church.

Northeast Greenland National Park
7 - 9Days

Northeast Greenland National Park

Over the course of the next 3 days we will enjoy an immersive and unforgettable exploration of the world’s largest national park! Measuring almost twice the size of France, exploring this vast and incredibly beautiful area is both a privilege and a delight. In such a remote area, our exact itinerary here will be mostly dictated by weather, ice and sea conditions, with each day’s adventures determined by your experienced Captain and Expedition Leader who will take advantage of every opportunity for exploration.

Upon arriving in the region, we will cruise past the rugged peaks of the Liverpool Land peninsula to reach the mouth of King Oscar Fjord. Potential landing and sail-by sites may include the 1300-meter-high rock wall Bastionen on the coast of Ella Island, the small Maria Island where the Germans had a camp during World War II, Ymer Island at Blomsterbugten, the mighty iceberg-producing Waltershausen Glacier, beautiful Moskusokse Fjord, and Jameson Land, which is a breeding ground for polar bears. Enjoying Zodiac cruises, guided nature walks and wildlife scouting throughout, these 3 days are sure to live long in the memory.

Blosseville Coast
10Day

Blosseville Coast

Our final adventures in Greenland will see us sail south along the stunning Blosseville Coast to explore more of this incredible region that is often thought of as the most dramatic coast outside of Antarctica. We will be on a constant lookout for polar wildlife, abandoned Inuit settlements and otherworldly landscapes, and if ice and weather conditions allow, we will attempt to make some shore landings.

At Sea - Denmark Strait
11Day

At Sea - Denmark Strait

Leaving the wonders of Greenland behind, we now make our way back across the Denmark Strait back towards Iceland, enjoying some well-deserved relaxation after the adventures of the previous days. Enjoy the last instalments of your fantastic presentation and lecture programme, relax with an expertly crafted cocktail in the Nordic Bar in the company of new friends, or simply spend time on deck watching the wilderness go by. In the evening, join the captain and crew for the Farewell Cocktail Party, followed by a presentation of photos and video by our onboard photographer as we celebrate our unforgettable Arctic expedition.

Reykjavik - Disembark
12Day

Reykjavik - Disembark

Arrival back into the vibrant and culture-rich Icelandic capital of Reykjavik will sadly signal the end of our Arctic voyage. After breakfast it will be time to disembark and bid a fond farewell to your crew and new-found friends. There are multiple options available in Reykjavik for extra adventures and we recommend booking a few extra days here to experience some of Iceland’s most famous sights. We will be happy to help you to arrange any post-voyage excursions or stays so please let us know if we can be of any assistance.
