Denpasar - Fly to Sorong
1 - 2Days

Denpasar - Fly to Sorong

Arrive independently to Denpasar, the capital city of the province of Bali, and join your transfer to your group hotel for an included overnight stay. The rest of the day will be at your leisure, and an information desk will be available at the hotel should you have any questions about the arrangements for your upcoming adventure.

The following morning, after breakfast at the hotel, you will take your included charter flight to Sorong where your fantastic expedition ship will be waiting. After transferring to the port for embarkation, settle into your comfortable cabin, familiarise yourself with the ship, and enjoy your special Captain’s Welcome Dinner as we set sail for Cenderawasih Bay.

Amsterdam Island & Auri Islands

Amsterdam Island & Auri Islands

Your first adventure will take you to the secluded Su Islands where we will make our way to the little-known gem of Amsterdam Island for a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. The friendly locals will welcome us to the village beach and, as we enjoy an exploration of this pristine environment, we can learn all about the local customs and traditions and hear about the challenges and rewards of life in this remote paradise.

The following day will see us arrive in the heart of Cenderawasih Bay, otherwise known as Bird of Paradise Bay, to enjoy some exploration of Teluk Cenderawasih National Park, Indonesia’s largest marine park. This striking marine wonderland is set within over 14,500 square kilometres of pristine ocean that is simply teeming with underwater wonders. The vibrant ecosystem here is home to dolphins, whale sharks, dugongs, and a dazzling array of fish and coral species, all of which is yours to observe whilst partaking in a number of water activities that will be available to you including beachcombing, swimming, snorkelling and diving in the clear, warm tropical waters.

Our main area for exploration will be around the Auri Islands which offer some of the most pristine coral reefs in all of Indonesia. Along with the aforementioned activities, you can also enjoy a memorable Zodiac cruise to the small waterfall and wildlife-filled lagoon marshlands of Maransabadi island. We will also visit the famous Roon Island to enjoy a snorkel among the colourful shallow reefs in Numamuran Strait, where the jungle meets the reef, a paddle in search of dugongs, a dive or snorkel to see Hawksbill and green turtles, and a search for a Japanese Zero fighter aircraft, a relic from World War II which rests on a shallow coral slope.

Kwatisore, Cenderawasih Bay

Today may be a highlight for many as you get the chance to tick off an ultimate bucket list experience with the unique opportunity to swim alongside whale sharks in their natural habitat. Swimming with these majestic gentle giants in these pristine waters surrounded by stunning scenery is a truly unforgettable experience. Your expedition will adhere to strict guidelines to ensure minimal disturbance to these magnificent animals. By observing these guidelines and maintaining a respectful distance, you can contribute to their conservation while enjoying incredibly special encounters. Please note that sightings can never be guaranteed, but the chances are high here.

After a morning of adventure, you can enjoy a gentler pace to the afternoon as we make our way to Kwatisore village for the chance to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of West Papuan culture. Your expert expedition team will introduce you to the unique customs, traditions, and way of life of this fascinating community. Be captivated by the distinct dances, adornments, and music as you savour a day of once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters and deep cultural immersion in this remote corner of Indonesia.

Pulau Num & Pulau Swande

Today we enjoy some further exploration of the magnificent Cenderawasih Bay area as we spend the day enjoying some fantastic water-based activities around the pristine islands of Pulau Num and Pulau Swande. Kayak through serene lagoons surrounded by lush mangrove forests, and dive or snorkel in the vibrant coral reefs teeming with life including graceful sea turtles, majestic manta rays, clownfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, the impressive Napoleon wrasse and much more. Keep an eye out for sharks too!

Alongside the wonderful marine life here, this region is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with Pulau Swande boasting a diverse range of avian species including the iconic birds-of-paradise, elusive cuscus, the impressive cassowary and vibrant eclectus parrots.

At Sea & Raja Ampat

Day 7 will be spent at sea enjoying some well-earned relaxation. Spend time on deck spotting seabirds, join one of the fantastic onboard talks and lectures, stay active in the gym, treat yourself to a massage in the wellness centre or simply relax in the bar with your new friends.

By day 8 we will have arrived in the heart of the ‘Coral Triangle,’ as we begin our exploration of the magnificent Raja Ampat archipelago. This unforgettable gem is renowned for its unparalleled marine biodiversity which you can easily uncover during your two days here. Explore the vibrant coral reefs, limestone formations, and lush rainforests of this breathtaking paradise, with visits to the stunning islands of Wayag and Waigeo. The crystal-clear waters are teeming with 600 species of hard coral and 1,500 types of fish, making it the ultimate destination for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.
