Embark Sea Spirit

Today marks the beginning of the next chapter of your adventure as you board the fantastic M/V Sea Spirit, your comfortable expedition vessel bound for the wild beauty of South Georgia. After settling into your cabin, join your fellow travellers for a welcome cocktail and dinner as you sail away from Stanley and begin your journey into the Southern Ocean.

The following day, you’ll explore some of the remote southern islands of the Falklands archipelago, home to thriving colonies of cormorants, albatross, and penguins. Keep your camera ready for sightings of Magellanic, Southern Rockhopper, Macaroni, and Gentoo penguins, which all breed here in abundance, set against windswept cliffs and unspoilt coastal scenery.

13 - 14Days

At Sea

The next 2 days will be spent at sea as the ship sails east towards beautiful South Georgia. On the way you will pass the remote, seabird-covered Shag Rocks, so have your camera ready on deck. This expedition cruise has been designed with photographers in mind (amateurs and professionals alike), so this time at sea is a great opportunity to meet your fellow travellers so discuss techniques and experiences, and to attend some of the photography workshops available onboard.

Your ship will cross the Antarctic Convergence and officially enter Antarctic waters. Your expert crew will provide lectures and presentations on the wildlife and history of South Georgia as well as briefings on bio-security procedures and the conservation efforts that are in place to protect the natural beauty of the area.

Exploring South Georgia

Prepare to be awe-struck as you arrive in South Georgia, a remote wilderness often hailed as the greatest wildlife sanctuary on Earth. With its glacier-clad mountains and sweeping beaches teeming with life, the island is a dream for nature lovers and photographers alike. Here, millions of penguins, seals, and seabirds thrive in an environment as dramatic as it is pristine.

Your Captain and expedition team will adjust the itinerary daily to make the most of weather and wildlife conditions, ensuring every moment is unforgettable. Possible landing sites include Salisbury Plain and St. Andrew’s Bay, where tens of thousands of King penguins gather alongside elephant seals and fur seals, creating a spectacle of sound and motion.

Expect close wildlife encounters, penguins approaching curiously as you photograph them, and watching for whales surfacing in the nutrient-rich waters. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit Grytviken, the island’s former whaling station and home to the South Georgia Museum, before paying your respects at the grave of legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.

As we bid farewell to South Georgia, we now spend 2 days at sea sailing back to the Falkland Islands. This is the perfect time to relax after what will have been an exciting couple of weeks, collate and perfect those images you have shot, join the last photo workshops and presentations, and regale stories of your adventures.

As we sail towards Argentina, we will spend one more day exploring the Falklands archipelago, this time hoping to visit some of the southern coastline searching for sightings of cetaceans such as Peale’s dolphins and Commerson’s dolphins, and the plethora of seabirds that call these lands home. Your exact route and exploration opportunities today will be dictated by weather conditions and available landing sites, and your experienced captain and expedition leader will continually adjust plans to take maximum advantage of the conditions in this challenging polar environment.

As your thrilling adventure nears its end, it’s time to head towards Ushuaia on the southern tip of Argentina. Continue your wildlife search as you spend time on deck and enjoy the final presentations and lectures from your onboard team of experts. You will be invited to attend a farewell dinner and cocktail, and this is the perfect time to reflect on the unforgettable moments you will have experienced during your expedition.

Arrival into the port of Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city, in the early hours of the morning signals the conclusion of your thrilling land and sea combination journey. There will be time for breakfast and a fond farewell to your crew and shipmates before disembarking and joining the group transfer to the airport or to a central downtown location.

Sea Spirit is a high-quality purpose-built Antarctica expedition ship with en-suite accommodation for up to 114 passengers. Recently refurbished, all suites and cabins have windows, satellite phone access, flat-screen TV and DVD player and king size or twin beds and a number also have private balconies. There is a passenger lift, spacious dining room, lounge, Polar library, bar, shop, gym and hot tub. The ship has plenty of open deck space and an open bridge policy. A 10mb communications access card is included in every voyage.

This impressive and remote island has an extensive coastline offering beautiful scenery but its main pull is the remarkable birdlife that lives and prospers here.

A small settlement situated within easy walking distance to the beautiful sandy bays and sheltered coves is home to 2 beautiful and spacious purpose-built houses where guests can enjoy fantastic hospitality, home-cooked meals and endless views close to the wildlife hotspots.

Pebble Lodge

Pebble Island is the third largest offshore island in the Falklands archipelago and the main guest accommodation here is this bright and comfortable lodge which is ideally situated on a neck of land separating the two main land masses of this wildlife and history rich island.

Spend your days exploring the diverse terrain of magnificent sea cliffs surrounded by a plethora of birdlife, beautiful beaches filled with penguins and imposing mountains before returning to the warmth and comfort of this recently renovated traditional farmhouse.
