Svalbard in Depth 15 Days

Aboard: Sylvia Earle

On this extended exploration of the Svalbard archipelago, there is ample time to enjoy the best of this magical region, a world of near-endless daylight, where polar bear sightings quicken your pulse, guillemot cries echo from towering cliffs, and beluga whales rise from the sea. With extra time for exploration, we hope to show you some of our favourite places in Svalbard, and perhaps discover some new ones. Unpredictable conditions are expected in wild and remote places such as Svalbard, and with extra time, we can slow the pace of the voyage, linger longer in quiet bays to enjoy wildlife encounters and return to a place that was previously not possible. Explore tundra adorned with wildflowers, keep watch for arctic fox, and discover historical camps of explorers and hunters. Push through pack ice to find walrus and bearded seals, and delight in the breathtakingly beautiful fjords. We don’t want you to miss out on anything!

Our popularitinerary Suggestions

All our itinerary holidays are fully customisable

Oslo to Longyearbyen
1 - 2Days

Oslo to Longyearbyen

Arrive independently to Oslo, the vibrant capital of Norway, where upon arrival you will be met by a tour representative to transfer to your hotel for your included overnight stay. The rest of the day will be at your leisure.

After breakfast at the hotel on day 2, you will join your group transfer to the airport for your included flight to Longyearbyen, the remote and magical administrative capital of the Svalbard archipelago. Upon arrival, you can explore the town on a guided excursion tour, learning all about Longyearbyen’s fascinating history, including a presentation in the large ‘lavvo’ at Camp Barentz in Advent Valley. Your tour also offers the chance to meet some friendly local huskies, pick up some souvenirs, and visit the Svalbard Museum.

In the late afternoon you will transfer to the port for embarkation. As you get your bearings and settle into your comfortable cabin, the ship will set sail out of the beautiful Isfjorden and deep into the Arctic wilderness. You may wish to spend some time on deck watching as the seabirds follow the ship, before joining the captain for your four-course welcome meal.

Svalbard Archipelago
3 - 14Days

Svalbard Archipelago

Over the course of the next 12 days you will enjoy a unique, total immersion into the unique landscapes, untouched beauty and iconic wildlife of Spitsbergen and the Svalbard archipelago as a whole. Weather dependent, you will attempt to circumnavigate around the entirety of the Svalbard archipelago, but this cannot be guaranteed. Each day your experienced captain and crew will assess the weather and ice conditions and plot a course for thrilling adventures and unforgettable sights.

What can be guaranteed is sightings of phenomenal fjords, magnificent mountains, rich tundra, and a variety of wildlife. As you sail through the snowscapes you can expect encounters with walrus, seals and whales, as well as an abundance of birdlife. But the main wildlife goal will be to spot the iconic Polar bears that call these lands their home. Your captain will aim to take you to the areas where Polar bear sightings are most frequent so that you can see their majesty up-close (but not too close!). With much more time here than on regular Svalbard expeditions, your captain can plan to reach further afield, pushing close to 80° north to search for polar bears on the pack ice.

Throughout your time here you will enjoy thrilling Zodiac cruises across the fronts of stunning glaciers and fjords, take walks across the tundra to look for reindeer and wild flowers, visit ancient whaling stations and ruins, and learn all about the area’s fascinating history and geology from your expert team. For those who choose to add kayaking to their package, there will be numerous opportunities to get paddling.

On this unique extended itinerary, we will attempt to explore fully around the island’s two largest islands; Spitsbergen and Nordauslandet. Unforgettable places you are likely to visit on this exciting Arctic cruise might include Kongsfjorden, the former mining settlement of Ny-Ålesund, Nordvesthjørnet, Raudfjorden, Magdalenefjorden, Virgohamna, Ytre Norskøya, Woodfjorden, Liefdefjorden, Moffen Island, Barentsøya, Edgeøya, Hornsund and Bellsund.

Longyearbyen to Oslo
15Day

Longyearbyen to Oslo

On the morning of day 15 your ship will sail back into Longyearbyen where your Arctic cruise adventure comes to an end. After disembarkation, a transfer will be provided to the airport for your included flight back to Oslo, or to a downtown location should you wish to extend your stay here. Various additional Arctic activities are available in Longyearbyen so please enquire for details should you wish to extend your adventure.
