Vancouver - Embark

Your unforgettable expedition begins in vibrant Vancouver, a city where coastal wilderness meets cosmopolitan charm. After checking in aboard your stylish expedition ship, MS Roald Amundsen, take some time to settle into your elegant cabin and explore the ship’s contemporary amenities.

In the evening, attend a safety and welcome briefing with your expert Expedition Team, who will guide you throughout your journey. As you enjoy your first dinner on board, feel the excitement build as your adventure along the wild and breathtaking coastlines of British Columbia and Alaska officially begins.

Canada's Inside Passage
2Day

Canada's Inside Passage

Awake to a day of spectacular coastal scenery as you sail through Canada’s legendary Inside Passage, a breathtaking network of islands, fjords, and narrow waterways stretching for nearly 1,000 miles. Unlike larger ships that transit overnight, you’ll have the luxury of experiencing this stunning route in full daylight.

From the comfort of the ship’s panoramic decks, watch for whales, dolphins, sea lions, and soaring eagles as you glide through serene, glacier-carved channels. Thanks to the ship’s small size and expedition flexibility, you’ll explore secluded passages that few travellers ever see, surrounded by towering forests, misty mountains, and pristine wilderness at every turn.

Misty Fjords
3Day

Misty Fjords

Today, you’ll awaken to the awe-inspiring beauty of Misty Fjords, one of Alaska’s most spectacular natural wonders and a crown jewel of the Tongass National Forest. Sheer granite cliffs plunge dramatically into deep, mirror-like waters, while countless waterfalls cascade through mist-shrouded evergreens. It’s easy to understand why naturalist John Muir once called this one of the most beautiful places he had ever seen.

Weather permitting, set out with your Expedition Team to explore this pristine wilderness up close by small expedition boat or kayak, gliding quietly through tranquil fjords framed by snow-capped peaks. Keep watch for bald eagles, mountain goats, and perhaps brown bears along the shore, while the waters teem with sea lions, porpoises, and orcas. Every moment here feels like stepping into an untouched, living postcard of the wild.

Wrangell
4Day

Wrangell

Today brings you to Wrangell, one of Alaska’s oldest and most characterful harbour towns, steeped in a rich blend of Indigenous, Russian, British, and American heritage. Just beyond the town lies Petroglyph Beach, where mysterious ancient rock carvings etched into the stone by the Łingít people reveal stories from centuries past.

Visit the Wrangell Museum to uncover the town’s fascinating history, then cross to Shakes Island, where the Chief Shakes Tribal House and striking totem poles stand as proud symbols of Łingít culture and tradition.

For those who love the outdoors, the surrounding landscapes are equally captivating. Follow scenic trails through lush rainforest and along the Stikine River estuary, where snow-dusted peaks and serene waterways frame a wilderness teeming with life delivering a true taste of wild Alaska.

Included excursions: Small boat cruising | Island Heritage Discovery Tour
Optional excursions: Tongass Botanicals Nature Walk | Stikine River Wilderness & Glacier Lake by Jetboat | Rainbow Falls Hike

Sitka
5Day

Sitka

Accessible only by sea or air, Sitka is a gem nestled between the Tongass National Forest and the shimmering waters of the Pacific. From the deck, take in breathtaking views of the Sisters Mountains and the graceful cone of Mount Edgecumbe volcano, a stunning backdrop to this culturally rich town.

Once home to the Łingít people for more than 10,000 years, Sitka later became the centre of Russian Alaska before being sold to the United States. This history is still visible in its architecture and traditions. Explore the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and Bishop’s House, reminders of its colonial past, then wander through Sitka National Historical Park, where towering Haida and Łingít totem poles line forest trails leading to the ocean.

Included excursions: Small boat cruising | Raptor Experience at Alaska Odyssey Theater
Optional excursions: Sitka Cultural Discovery | Kayak Adventure | Tongass National Forest Hike | Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest | Kelp Forest Snorkel Experience | Homestead Visit in Silver Bay Fjord | Zodiac Adventure & Fin Island Lodge

Icy Strait Expedition Day
6Day

Icy Strait Expedition Day

Today is all about immersing yourself in the wild heart of Alaska. As we sail through the Icy Strait, your Captain and Expedition Team will choose the day’s adventures based on weather, tides, and wildlife activity, ensuring the best possible encounters. We may explore George Island, the Inian Islands, or Idaho Inlet, each offering its own unique blend of dramatic scenery and abundant life.

Hop into small expedition boats to get up close to rugged cliffs, sea caves, and rocky islets, where sea lions bask and Bald Eagles soar overhead. If conditions allow, we may make a shore landing for a guided nature walk, surrounded by pristine Alaskan wilderness. Keep your camera ready as this is prime territory for spotting humpback whales, orcas, and playful porpoises, all set against the untamed beauty of Alaska’s coastal frontier.

Glaciers of Icy Bay
7Day

Glaciers of Icy Bay

Today you’ll witness the raw, glacial grandeur of Icy Bay, one of Alaska’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Here, the Guyot, Yahtse, and Tyndall Glaciers spill dramatically into the sea, sending shimmering icebergs drifting across the bay. Conditions permitting, you’ll venture out in small expedition boats or kayaks, allowing for an intimate encounter with this ever-changing icescape.

Keep your eyes peeled as wildlife thrives in these glacier-fed waters. You may spot humpback whales breaching, orcas cutting through the surf, and Steller sea lions and sea otters basking on the ice. Harbour seals often dot the floating ice floes, creating extraordinary photo opportunities. In this pristine wilderness of blue ice and white peaks, every moment feels like a scene from nature’s most spectacular theatre.

At Sea - Gulf of Alaska
8Day

At Sea - Gulf of Alaska

Spend a tranquil day at sea as we sail across the majestic Gulf of Alaska, a perfect opportunity to relax, recharge, and take in the endless ocean views. Unwind in the infinity pool, hot tubs, or sauna, or stay active with a session in the gym before indulging in a soothing spa treatment.

Throughout the day, your Expedition Team will host engaging lectures in the Science Centre, diving into topics such as Alaska’s unique wildlife, glacial landscapes, and fascinating cultural history. Out on deck, keep watch for seabirds gliding over the waves. You might spot the Laysan and Black-footed Albatross, and if you’re lucky, the rare Short-tailed Albatross. As evening falls, join fellow travellers in the Explorer Lounge & Bar for a cocktail and stories shared against the backdrop of the open sea.

Kodiak Island
9Day

Kodiak Island

Today we arrive at Kodiak Island, known as Alaska’s Emerald Isle for its lush spruce forests and rolling green hills. This vast wilderness is also home to the Alutiiq people, who have thrived here for thousands of years, living in harmony with the island’s rich natural bounty.

Kodiak’s most iconic residents, however, are its magnificent brown bears, some of the largest in the world. Around 3,500 of these giants roam the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, which blankets most of the island. With luck, we’ll spot these powerful yet graceful animals as we explore by small expedition boat, watching them forage or fish along the shoreline. Framed by misty mountains and rugged coastlines, this rare glimpse into the bears’ wild domain is sure to be an unforgettable highlight of your journey.

Katmai National Park
10Day

Katmai National Park

Expect more bears today as we explore the awe-inspiring Katmai National Park, a vast wilderness of volcanoes, fjords, and untouched tundra spanning over four million acres. This dramatic landscape is home to the world’s largest concentration of brown bears, with more than 2,000 protected within the park’s borders, making it a true haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

Accompanied by expert bear guides, we’ll search for these majestic creatures safely from the deck or by small expedition boat, watching as they roam the shoreline, forage for berries, dig for clams, or wade into salmon-rich streams to fish. Depending on weather and sea conditions, we may explore Geographic Harbor, Kinak Bay, or Kukak Bay, each offering its own pristine scenery and remarkable wildlife encounters.

Remote Bays of the Alaska Peninsula
11Day

Remote Bays of the Alaska Peninsula

We now spend the day venturing deep into the wild, untamed beauty of the Alaska Peninsula, a remote region defined by dramatic coastlines, towering volcanic peaks, and secluded bays teeming with life. This is one of Alaska’s last true wildernesses, raw, rugged, and astonishingly rich in wildlife.

Join your Expedition Team to explore hidden coves and inlets by small boat, scanning the shores for brown bears and Bald Eagles, while sea otters, seals, and humpback whales may glide through the surrounding waters. As you take in the vastness of this untamed landscape, your guides will share fascinating insights into the geological forces that shaped the peninsula, a land where fire, ice, and ocean meet in spectacular harmony.

The Ghost Town of Unga
12Day

The Ghost Town of Unga

Step ashore at Unga Village, a hauntingly beautiful ghost town on the southern tip of Unga Island. Once home to the Unangax̂ people, the settlement was founded in 1833 but abandoned in 1969 when traditional fishing could no longer sustain its small community. Today, only a scattering of weathered wooden buildings remain as silent witnesses to a bygone era.

As you explore this evocative place, you’ll see how nature has gently reclaimed the land, with wildflowers like pink lousewort and fireweed carpeting the ground and softening the edges of the ruins. Accompanied by your Expedition Team, you’ll make a nature landing by small boat to wander among these ghostly relics and reflect on the delicate balance between human history and the power of the natural world.

Dutch Harbor
13Day

Dutch Harbor

Today we arrive at Dutch Harbor, the largest fishing port in the United States and one of the most historically rich and wildlife-filled stops on your journey. As we approach, keep an eye out for Mount Makushin, a dramatic, sometimes-steaming volcano rising nearly 6,000 feet above the island landscape.

Once ashore, delve into the area’s fascinating heritage. Learn about the Indigenous Unangan (Aleut) people at the Museum of the Aleutians, visit the elegant Russian Orthodox Cathedral, or explore the World War II museum, which commemorates the 1942 battle that reached these remote shores.

Wildlife abounds here. Bald Eagles and puffins soar overhead, while foxes, lemmings, and wild horses roam the land. In the surrounding waters, look for whales, sea lions, and porpoises. Fans of adventure may recognize Dutch Harbor as the filming location of The Deadliest Catch, but today you’ll discover its quieter side, uncovering a place where culture, history, and wild beauty come together at the edge of the world.

Included excursions: Unalaska Cultural Tour
Optional excursions: Bunker Hill Hike

At Sea
14Day

At Sea

Enjoy a peaceful day at sea as we continue along Alaska’s wild and beautiful coastline. This is the perfect opportunity to slow down and absorb the rhythm of expedition travel, connecting with the landscapes and seascapes that define this remote region.

Keep your binoculars close as this stretch of ocean is alive with seabirds, including puffins, auklets, and murrelets, and with luck, you might even spot the rare Red-legged Kittiwake, found only in this part of the world.

In the Science Centre, your Expedition Team will host engaging talks on the geography, climate, and birdlife of the North Pacific, deepening your appreciation of this remarkable corner of the planet.

St Paul Island
15Day

St Paul Island

Today we arrive at St. Paul Island, the largest of the remote Pribilof Islands, where dramatic volcanic cliffs meet the vast expanse of the Bering Sea. Home to the largest Unangan (Aleut) community in the United States, the island offers a fascinating glimpse into Indigenous life in one of the world’s most isolated settlements. Visit the remains of traditional barabaras, semi-underground dwellings ingeniously designed to withstand fierce coastal winds.

For nature lovers, St. Paul is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Designated an Important Bird Area, it serves as a vital stopover for some 300 species of migratory birds. Keep your binoculars ready for Horned and Tufted Puffins, the Pribilof Sandpiper, and the elusive Red-legged Kittiwake, which nests only here and on nearby St. George Island.

Along the shoreline, watch for northern fur seals, which gather here in staggering numbers. Over half the world’s population lives and breeds on these islands, making this one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles in Alaska.

St Matthew Island
16Day

St Matthew Island

Today we set foot on St. Matthew Island, one of the most remote and isolated islands in Alaska, lying nearly 200 miles from the nearest settlement. Now part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, this wild and windswept outpost feels truly untouched by time. As we approach, you’ll spot black sand beaches, flower-strewn tundra, and the weathered remnants of long-abandoned buildings offering faint echoes of the few who once tried, and failed, to live here.

On our nature landing, you’ll discover a sanctuary now ruled entirely by wildlife. The island teems with puffins, murres, and cormorants, their calls filling the crisp Arctic air. With luck, we may catch a glimpse of the rare McKay’s Bunting, which breeds almost exclusively here. And listen carefully as you might even hear the high, musical chirp of the singing vole, a tiny creature with an outsized presence on this forgotten island at the edge of the world.

Crossing the Bering Sea
17Day

Crossing the Bering Sea

Today we sail across the legendary Bering Sea, a remote and storied stretch of ocean separating Russia to the west and the United States to the east. As we cruise these northern waters, take time to unwind and reflect on your incredible Alaskan journey so far.

Make sure to spend time on deck as this region is alive with marine life and seabirds. Look for humpback whales surfacing in the waves, and watch flocks of seabirds wheeling effortlessly above the open sea.

This final full day at sea is all about relaxation and reflection. Enjoy the ship’s comforts, take in the views from deck, or join your Expedition Team in the Science Centre for a recap of your voyage highlights and one last round of fascinating insights into the wildlife, landscapes, and cultures you’ve encountered along the way.

Nome - Disembark
18Day

Nome - Disembark

Your voyage concludes in Nome, a frontier town steeped in the spirit of the Alaskan Gold Rush. Founded in 1898, this rugged coastal settlement still bears the marks of its golden past, from abandoned dredges and rusting steam engines to old railroad tracks that hint at the feverish days of fortune seekers. Even today, prospectors can be found panning for gold along its windswept beaches.

Nome also holds a proud place in polar exploration history. It was here that legendary explorer Roald Amundsen ended three of his great Arctic expeditions, including his daring 1926 air attempt to reach the North Pole.

After one last morning to soak up the pioneer atmosphere of this iconic town, it’s time to say farewell to MS Roald Amundsen and the crew. You’ll then board your flight to Seattle, where an overnight stay awaits.

Seattle - End of Tour
19Day

Seattle - End of Tour

Your Alaskan and British Columbian adventure concludes in Seattle, affectionately known as The Emerald City for its lush, evergreen surroundings.

If time allows before your onward journey, explore some of Seattle’s highlights. Or, if you’re not ready for your adventure to end, extend your stay with an optional Post-Programme tour and uncover more of the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty before heading home.
