Keflavik to Kangerlussuaq
1 - 2Days

Keflavik to Kangerlussuaq

Your journey begins with an overnight stay in Reykjavík, giving you a chance to settle in and enjoy the world’s northernmost capital before heading west towards Greenland. The following day, an included flight from Keflavik takes you across the North Atlantic to Kangerlussuaq, a remote settlement set at the head of a long, deep fjord and surrounded by vast Arctic wilderness.

Once a former WWII airbase, Kangerlussuaq is now best known as one of Greenland’s key gateways to the ice sheet, with a starkly beautiful landscape of tundra, glacial valleys and wide-open skies. Wildlife is abundant here, and before boarding your expedition ship and setting sail, there is every chance to appreciate the sense of space and solitude that defines this remarkable corner of West Greenland, where muskoxen, reindeer and Arctic foxes roam.

Evigheds Glacier
3Day

Evigheds Glacier

Our first Greenland adventure will take us to the magnificent Evigheds Glacier, also known as Eternity Glacier. Carved by immense forces over countless centuries, Evigheds Glacier spills into a narrow fjord hemmed in by steep granite cliffs, creating one of West Greenland’s most striking icy landscapes. Here, the meeting of glacier, rock and sea feels especially dramatic, with great walls of ice descending towards the water and a wilderness atmosphere that is both raw and deeply serene.

This is a place defined by movement and sound, where the silence can suddenly be broken by the crack of calving ice as huge fragments break free and drift out into the fjord. All around, the surrounding tundra and coastal waters support a rich variety of Arctic wildlife, while seabirds wheel overhead and the distant groan of the glacier adds to the sense of being in a remote and elemental world.

Qeqertarsuaq
4Day

Qeqertarsuaq

Today brings a call at Qeqertarsuaq, the largest settlement on Disko Island, where brightly painted houses sit beneath dark volcanic peaks and the icy backdrop of Lyngemark Glacier. This is one of West Greenland’s most distinctive landscapes, shaped by ancient volcanic forces into a terrain of red basalt mountains, striking rock formations, black sand shores and gently rolling valleys. Its comparatively mild conditions also support an unusual richness of plant life, adding another layer of contrast to this dramatic Arctic setting.

During your included excursion, explore the characterful town itself, with time to discover its history and culture through the local museum and historic church, before wandering the colourful streets at a relaxed pace. For those seeking a deeper connection with the island, optional experiences offer the chance either to learn about Greenland’s enduring sled dog traditions with a local guide or to head out on a scenic hike through basalt landscapes and summer flora, with wide views across Disko Bay where icebergs, seabirds and even whales may sometimes be seen. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Uummannaq
5Day

Uummannaq

Arriving in Uummannaq, you are welcomed by one of Greenland’s most memorable settings, where colourful houses line the rocky shore beneath the island’s remarkable heart-shaped mountain. Surrounded by drifting icebergs and framed by fjords rich in Arctic wildlife, this small settlement has a quiet beauty that feels both timeless and deeply evocative. The ever-changing interplay of light, sea and ice only adds to the atmosphere, giving Uummannaq a sense of calm and wonder that lingers long after you leave.

Your included community visit offers a wonderful introduction to both the spirit and traditions of the town. As you explore, discover a place where Inuit heritage and everyday life remain closely intertwined, from the harbour’s fishing activity to the warm interactions between local residents. Visits to the museum, historic church and traditional peat houses reveal the depth of Uummannaq’s story, while the welcoming character of the community helps make this far-flung settlement feel unexpectedly intimate.

Eqip Sermia Glacier
6Day

Eqip Sermia Glacier

Today’s destination is Eqip Sermia, one of Greenland’s most active and impressive tidewater glaciers, where a vast wall of ice pours directly into the fjord. In this stark and powerful setting, the scale of the Arctic feels especially vivid, with the glacier dominating the landscape and the surrounding wilderness emphasising the remoteness of this extraordinary region.

Eqip Sermia offers a rare chance to witness the Greenland ice sheet in motion. Great sections of ice frequently break away from the glacier face and crash into the water, sending waves across the fjord and scattering fresh ice into the sea. It is a dramatic and unforgettable spectacle, and a striking reminder that this frozen world is not still, but constantly being reshaped by the forces of ice, water and time.

Ilulissat, Disko Bay
7Day

Ilulissat, Disko Bay

Today you arrive in Ilulissat, one of Greenland’s most iconic destinations, set beside the extraordinary ice-choked waters of Disko Bay. This is the famed iceberg capital of the world, where the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord is filled with vast sculpted blocks of ice released by the mighty Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. The scale of the landscape is unforgettable, with towering icebergs drifting out to sea and a constant sense of movement and grandeur that makes this one of the standout moments of any voyage in West Greenland.

Included access to Ilulissat’s museums offers a deeper understanding of the town’s culture, history and relationship with the surrounding ice-filled world, while the boardwalks at Sermermiut lead to superb views over the fjord. Those wishing to explore further can choose from optional experiences that reveal more of the area’s character, whether on a guided tundra walk through rocky Arctic scenery or on a boat trip among the immense icebergs at the mouth of the Icefjord, where the sheer scale of this frozen wilderness is best appreciated from the water. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Sisimiut
8Day

Sisimiut

Your penultimate port of call is Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest town, set just north of the Arctic Circle in a landscape where deep-rooted tradition and modern Arctic life exist side by side. Unlike many settlements this far north, Sisimiut remains largely ice free in winter, helping it develop into an important cultural centre as well as a hub for outdoor adventure. With more than 4,500 years of human history behind it, this is a place where the legacy of the Dorset, Thule and Inuit peoples still shapes daily life, and where dog sledding remains an enduring part of local identity.

Your included cultural experience offers an engaging introduction to Greenlandic traditions, with the chance to sample local flavours, hear Greenlandic music and gain insight into the importance of sled dogs in Arctic life. For those wishing to explore further, optional excursions reveal more of Sisimiut’s character, whether heading into the surrounding backcountry on an ATV adventure or discovering the layered history of Tele Island on foot, where ancient Inuit traces and later colonial influences can still be seen against a backdrop of sweeping coastal views. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Kangerlussuaq to Keflavik
9Day

Kangerlussuaq to Keflavik

Your Arctic voyage comes full circle as you return to Kangerlussuaq, where it is time to disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Keflavik Airport in Iceland.
