Reykjavik - Embark
1 - 2Days

Reykjavik - Embark

Begin your journey in Reykjavík, where an included hotel night gives you time to settle in and enjoy a taste of Iceland’s lively capital. Whether you choose to stroll the colourful streets, browse local boutiques or simply soak up the city’s creative atmosphere, this is a relaxed introduction to the adventure ahead.

The following day, join your group transfer to the port and embark your expedition ship. As you settle on board and begin sailing west across the North Atlantic towards Greenland, the sense of anticipation builds for the remarkable landscapes and remote communities that await in South and West Greenland.

At Sea
3Day

At Sea

As you sail towards Greenland, spend your day watching the North Atlantic unfold from the ship’s observation decks, where ever-changing views of open water and sky create a peaceful backdrop to the voyage. It is a chance to slow the pace, settle into life on board and enjoy the growing sense of anticipation as Greenland draws nearer.

Sea days also offer time to make the most of the ship’s facilities and expert-led programme. Browse the library, join informative lectures from the expedition team, exchange stories with fellow travellers or pick up new tips from the onboard photography specialists to help capture the landscapes and wildlife still to come.

Skjoldungen
4Day

Skjoldungen

Your first encounter with Greenland is at Skjoldungen, a spectacular fjord on the island’s remote and rugged east coast. Framed by steep, snow-capped mountains, this deeply carved waterway offers a dramatic introduction to Greenland’s wild beauty, with winding rivers, towering rock walls and the distant presence of the Thrym Glacier completing the scene.

As you explore, look out for the rich detail of this Arctic landscape, from dwarf birch and willow scrub to summer wildflowers brightening the shoreline. In the fjord itself, sculpted icebergs drift in shades of brilliant white and deep blue, while the surrounding waters may also reveal passing whales, adding to the sense of arriving in one of the world’s great polar wildernesses.

Cruise Prins Christian Sund
5Day

Cruise Prins Christian Sund

This morning’s sail takes you through Prins Christian Sund, one of Greenland’s most dramatic and beautiful waterways. Stretching for around 100 kilometres at the island’s southern tip, this narrow passage threads between the mainland and the islands of the Cape Farewell Archipelago, revealing a striking landscape of sheer granite cliffs, jagged peaks and glacier-fed waters.

As the ship winds through the fjord, the scenery unfolds in a series of breathtaking vistas, with icebergs drifting across clear, reflective water and mountains rising steeply on either side. Remote and atmospheric, Prins Christian Sund offers a memorable glimpse of southern Greenland’s raw grandeur and the immense scale of its polar landscapes.

Aappilattoq
5Day

Aappilattoq

Later in the day, visit Aappilattoq, a small and remote settlement beautifully set among the steep mountain ridges of Prins Christian Sund. Its brightly painted houses stand out against the rugged Arctic backdrop, creating a striking scene in one of southern Greenland’s most isolated communities. Reached only by boat or helicopter, Aappilattoq offers a rare glimpse into life in a settlement where hunting and fishing still shape everyday life.

During your time here, join an included community visit and experience a traditional kaffemik, with coffee, tea and cakes shared with local residents in a warm Greenlandic welcome. You may also have the chance to enjoy a performance by the local choir in the village church. For those seeking a little more activity, an optional guided hike to Innap Qaava offers sweeping views back over the settlement, where colourful homes, rocky tundra and the vast surrounding landscape come together in a memorable panorama. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance are not included in the cost of your trip.

Gronnedal & Ivittut
6Day

Gronnedal & Ivittut

Today’s exploration takes you into the scenic waters of Arsuk Fjord, where Kangilinnguit, formerly known as Grønnedal, sits amid some of southwest Greenland’s most striking landscapes. Once an important U.S. naval base during the Second World War, this historic site is approached through a narrow channel, with views of Kajartalik lighthouse, tiny Arsuk village and the dramatic peaks and glacier scenery that frame the fjord, including the imposing Mt. Kungnait and the Arsuk Glacier beyond.

Later, continue to the abandoned mining settlement of Ivittuut, a place with a fascinating and unusual history. Once home to the world’s largest reserve of cryolite, a mineral essential to aluminium production during the war years, the town is now an atmospheric ghost settlement of empty houses, mine workings and weathered remains. As you wander this haunting landscape, traces of its industrial past still lie scattered along the rocky shore, while today it is muskoxen rather than miners that roam this remote and evocative corner of Greenland.

Nigerdlikasik Fjord & Glacier
7Day

Nigerdlikasik Fjord & Glacier

Today brings you to the remote Nigerdlikasik Fjord, a striking and little-visited corner of South Greenland where steep cliffs, rugged mountains and the Nigerdlikasik Brae glacier create an unforgettable Arctic landscape. Quiet and largely untouched, this is a place that feels truly wild, offering a strong sense of isolation amid the dramatic scenery at the head of Kvanefjord.

As you explore, look out for the details shaped by centuries of ice, from sculpted rock faces and glacial valleys to meltwater streams flowing through the stark terrain. The fjord’s volcanic geology and mineral-rich surroundings add further interest, making Nigerdlikasik not only visually impressive but also one of the more geologically fascinating stops on the voyage.

Nuuk
8Day

Nuuk

Arrive in Nuuk, Greenland’s vibrant capital, where traditional culture and modern life come together against a backdrop of mountains and fjords. Home to more than a third of the country’s population, Nuuk offers a lively contrast to the remote settlements and wild landscapes visited earlier in the voyage, with colourful wooden houses, a busy harbour and contemporary architecture all shaping the character of the city.

There is much to discover here, from Nuuk Cathedral and the waterfront atmosphere to the Greenland National Museum, where the famous Qilakitsoq mummies provide a remarkable link to the island’s past. As both the cultural heart of Greenland and a gateway to the surrounding fjords and mountains, Nuuk offers an engaging insight into Greenlandic life and another memorable day of exploration.

Evigheds Glacier
9Day

Evigheds Glacier

Moving up Greenland's iconic west coast, our next adventure will take us to the magnificent Evigheds Glacier, also known as Eternity Glacier. Carved by immense forces over countless centuries, Evigheds Glacier spills into a narrow fjord hemmed in by steep granite cliffs, creating one of West Greenland’s most striking icy landscapes. Here, the meeting of glacier, rock and sea feels especially dramatic, with great walls of ice descending towards the water and a wilderness atmosphere that is both raw and deeply serene.

This is a place defined by movement and sound, where the silence can suddenly be broken by the crack of calving ice as huge fragments break free and drift out into the fjord. All around, the surrounding tundra and coastal waters support a rich variety of Arctic wildlife, while seabirds wheel overhead and the distant groan of the glacier adds to the sense of being in a remote and elemental world.

Qeqertarsuaq
10Day

Qeqertarsuaq

Today brings a call at Qeqertarsuaq, the largest settlement on Disko Island, where brightly painted houses sit beneath dark volcanic peaks and the icy backdrop of Lyngemark Glacier. This is one of West Greenland’s most distinctive landscapes, shaped by ancient volcanic forces into a terrain of red basalt mountains, striking rock formations, black sand shores and gently rolling valleys. Its comparatively mild conditions also support an unusual richness of plant life, adding another layer of contrast to this dramatic Arctic setting.

During your included excursion, explore the characterful town itself, with time to discover its history and culture through the local museum and historic church, before wandering the colourful streets at a relaxed pace. For those seeking a deeper connection with the island, optional experiences offer the chance either to learn about Greenland’s enduring sled dog traditions with a local guide or to head out on a scenic hike through basalt landscapes and summer flora, with wide views across Disko Bay where icebergs, seabirds and even whales may sometimes be seen. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Eqip Sermia Glacier
11Day

Eqip Sermia Glacier

Today’s destination is Eqip Sermia, one of Greenland’s most active and impressive tidewater glaciers, where a vast wall of ice pours directly into the fjord. In this stark and powerful setting, the scale of the Arctic feels especially vivid, with the glacier dominating the landscape and the surrounding wilderness emphasising the remoteness of this extraordinary region.

Eqip Sermia offers a rare chance to witness the Greenland ice sheet in motion. Great sections of ice frequently break away from the glacier face and crash into the water, sending waves across the fjord and scattering fresh ice into the sea. It is a dramatic and unforgettable spectacle, and a striking reminder that this frozen world is not still, but constantly being reshaped by the forces of ice, water and time.

Disko Bay
11Day

Disko Bay

Later in the day, sail into Disko Bay and the Ilulissat Icefjord, one of the great highlights of any Greenland voyage. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this extraordinary region is famed for the immense icebergs released by the highly productive Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, which calve from the Greenland Ice Sheet and drift out to sea in vast, sculptural forms. The scale of the ice here is truly remarkable, creating a landscape that feels both majestic and ever-changing.

Ilulissat
12Day

Ilulissat

Today you explore Ilulissat, one of Greenland’s most iconic destinations, set beside the extraordinary ice-choked waters of Disko Bay. Included access to Ilulissat’s museums offers a deeper understanding of the town’s culture, history and relationship with the surrounding ice-filled world, while the boardwalks at Sermermiut lead to superb views over the fjord. Those wishing to explore further can choose from optional experiences that reveal more of the area’s character, whether on a guided tundra walk through rocky Arctic scenery or on a boat trip among the immense icebergs at the mouth of the Icefjord, where the sheer scale of this frozen wilderness is best appreciated from the water. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Sisimiut
13Day

Sisimiut

Your penultimate port of call is Sisimiut, Greenland’s second-largest town, set just north of the Arctic Circle in a landscape where deep-rooted tradition and modern Arctic life exist side by side. Unlike many settlements this far north, Sisimiut remains largely ice free in winter, helping it develop into an important cultural centre as well as a hub for outdoor adventure. With more than 4,500 years of human history behind it, this is a place where the legacy of the Dorset, Thule and Inuit peoples still shapes daily life, and where dog sledding remains an enduring part of local identity.

Your included cultural experience offers an engaging introduction to Greenlandic traditions, with the chance to sample local flavours, hear Greenlandic music and gain insight into the importance of sled dogs in Arctic life. For those wishing to explore further, optional excursions reveal more of Sisimiut’s character, whether heading into the surrounding backcountry on an ATV adventure or discovering the layered history of Tele Island on foot, where ancient Inuit traces and later colonial influences can still be seen against a backdrop of sweeping coastal views. Please note that optional excursions should be booked in advance and will be at an additional cost.

Kangerlussuaq - Fly to Keflavik
14Day

Kangerlussuaq - Fly to Keflavik

Your voyage ends in Kangerlussuaq, where you disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight to Keflavík in Iceland. Set at the head of a long fjord and surrounded by tundra and glacial landscapes, Kangerlussuaq has long served as an important gateway to Greenland’s interior. Although this marks the close of your expedition, the surrounding landscape provides a fitting final impression of Greenland’s wild beauty. The tundra and nearby icefields support an impressive range of wildlife, and this region is especially well known for its muskoxen, along with reindeer, Arctic foxes, Arctic hares and gyrfalcons.
