Fly to Churchill

This morning, board your private charter flight bound for Churchill, a welcoming northern outpost with deep roots as a Hudson’s Bay Company fur trading hub, and one of the world’s finest destinations for observing polar bears. After arriving in Churchill, you will journey across the tundra aboard a Polar Rover enroute to the Tundra Lodge, with your first opportunities to photograph Arctic wildlife along the way.

Set on the edge of Hudson Bay, where boreal forest gives way to Arctic tundra, this wild landscape supports an impressive variety of life. Alongside polar bears, you may encounter caribou, Arctic fox, Arctic hare, ptarmigan or snowy owl, while your expert Photo Expedition Leaders interpret the behaviour and ecology of the wildlife you observe. After settling into the Tundra Lodge for the first of four nights, enjoy dinner and an evening presentation with practical guidance on photographing Arctic wildlife and northern landscapes. But stay alert, meals are often joyfully interrupted by sightings of polar bears wandering just outside the windows.

Polar Bear Photography
3 - 5Days

Polar Bear Photography

You now spend three remarkable days based directly on the tundra, in one of the Churchill region’s most productive areas for polar bear viewing. Each autumn, bears gather along the shores of Hudson Bay as they wait for the sea ice to form, and the Tundra Lodge is positioned in a location where early freeze-up often draws regular bear activity. This means superb opportunities to photograph polar bears in soft morning light, during the lingering glow of late afternoon, and sometimes at exceptionally close range.

The lodge itself is designed with wildlife photography in mind, with elevated outdoor observation decks, spacious communal areas and large windows that allow you to respond quickly when bears approach. From this unique base, you may capture mothers with cubs, young males sparring, or solitary bears moving across the stark northern landscape, while your Photo Expedition Leaders help interpret behaviour and offer practical advice for getting the best possible images.

Your time at the lodge is complemented by excursions aboard specialist Polar Rovers, allowing you to range farther across the tundra in search of different wildlife encounters and broader landscape perspectives. Alongside polar bears, there may be chances to photograph Arctic fox, ptarmigan, snowy owl and other northern species that inhabit this resilient environment.

Each evening, return to the warmth and comfort of the Tundra Lodge for dinner and expert-led photography presentations. On clear nights, you may also have the chance to photograph the northern lights as they shimmer above the dark Arctic sky, adding another unforgettable dimension to this immersive polar bear photography expedition.

Dog Sledding / Fly to Winnipeg
6 - 7Days

Dog Sledding / Fly to Winnipeg

Before we bid farewell to the high North, there’s still time to soak up a few last adventures. One of the day’s highlights is an unforgettable dog sledding experience. Having made our way back to Churchill, you will meet a seasoned local musher and their enthusiastic team of sled dogs for the chance to ride behind them through the serene boreal forest, offering an exhilarating nod to traditional northern travel.

Depending on timing and interests, you may also wish to browse the local shops for handmade Arctic crafts, or take an optional helicopter flight over the tundra for sweeping aerial views of the landscape you have spent the past few days exploring.

We’ll gather for a farewell lunch to reflect on our time together, sharing stories and memories before boarding your afternoon flight back to Winnipeg. There, a final reception marks the end of your northern adventure, one filled with awe, discovery, and unforgettable encounters with the wild.

Enjoy an overnight stay at the Fort Garry Hotel before checking out after breakfast on day 7 and transferring to the airport for your onward or homeward flight.
