Mexico – Baja’s Bounty

Arrive independently to San José del Cabo and join your transfer from the airport to the designated meeting area to begin your overland orientation transfer to La Paz. As you travel you will get your first views of the beautiful Baja landscape and be briefed about the adventures that lie ahead. After boarding and settling into your cabin we will set sail as you enjoy a cocktail and dinner with your new shipmates.

The ruggedly beautiful adventure playground of Isla San Francisco is ours to enjoy today as we anchor off the coast and make our way to the shore for a hike across the ridge, through the steep red bluffs and across the sweeping desert beach. A snorkel in the bay will reward with lots of sightings of colourful sea life, or you may choose to enjoy a kayaking excursion, a paddleboarding trip or relax on the beach with your toes in the sand and surrounded by incredible natural beauty.

Today we will head for the beautiful Bahía Agua Verde where the clear waters bordered by sparse craggy mountains are a delight to explore by skiff (small boat). You will also have the unique chance today to visit with a local ranchero and his family to experience the “real Baja” on a mule ride through the mountains and canyons of this exceptionally scenic spot. This thoroughly enjoyable day will be rewarding and fun, and will also give you great chances for birdwatching as you trek.

Enjoy the beautiful beaches of Isla Coronado this morning - snorkel, kayak, or take a skiff tour. Watch for frigate birds and blue footed boobies in the air and dolphins and sea lions on the water - the waters here are so crystal clear you won't want to come back to the boat! It's worth it though - after lunch, set out to explore Loreto town. Founded in the 17th century by Jesuit missionaries, the downtown area features no fewer than seven historical monuments, including the Mission of our Lady or Loreto, the starting point of the Camino Real. Finish a day full of the best of nature and culture with a nightcap under the stars.

Today is all about marine wildlife as we spend the day searching the Sea of Cortés for the dolphin pods that can often be seen here in huge numbers, as well as sperm whales and the largest baleen whales in the world, fin whales and blue whales. Depending on the time of year you may also see the gray whales that arrive along Baja’s west coast between January and March. The adventures will take place around Bahía Magdalena where you will enjoy a panga ride to look for these fascinating and imposing animals. In the afternoon you might also enjoy a hike into the Sierra La Giganta Mountains for a tour of the crown jewel of Baja’s historic missions, San Javier.

Our next stop brings us to the steep craggy seamount of Los Islotes where you can take a memorable snorkelling trip to look for the young sea lion pups that are often frolicking here. Later we will head to Isla Partida for some kayaking, snorkelling and paddle-boarding, or a hike along the island’s desert beaches and rocky arroyos. In the evening you can settle down on the beach for an unforgettable beach party with your newfound friends, with drinks, lounge chairs and party atmosphere provided!

Tucked away in a secluded cove surrounded by long fingers of red rock and a golden beach. Spend your last full day enjoying the feel of warm sand under your feet on a beach walk, investigate nooks and crannies in the rocks by kayak, or explore a little further afield on a guided hike. Celebrate your week at tonight’s special Farewell Dinner with an entertaining slideshow by your expedition team.
