Greenland & Wild Labrador - Torngat Mountains Adventure

Aboard: M/V Ocean Nova Ocean Victory

Journey from Greenland to Newfoundland on an extraordinary small ship expedition through some of the most remote and dramatic landscapes of the North Atlantic. Beginning among the vast fjords of western Greenland, you’ll cross the Arctic Circle, explore colourful Nuuk and sail the Davis Strait before reaching the wild Labrador coast. Along the way, towering mountains, deep fjords, drifting ice and rich marine life create an ever-changing backdrop, with opportunities to spot whales, seabirds and even polar bears.

At the heart of the voyage lies Torngat Mountains National Park, where immense peaks rise straight from the sea and Inuit hosts share their deep connection to this ancestral homeland. Continue through Nunatsiavut communities, historic Hebron and the remote settlements of Labrador before tracing Newfoundland’s rugged northeast coast to L’Anse aux Meadows and St. John’s. Combining wildlife, remarkable scenery and powerful cultural encounters, this is an expedition shaped as much by the people of the North as by the landscapes themselves.

Various departures available aboard two different ships. Some departures may operate between Nuuk and St John’s instead of Kangerlussuaq. Some departures will also operate in reverse.

Kangerlussuaq - Embark
1Day

Kangerlussuaq - Embark

Your Arctic adventure begins in Kangerlussuaq, set within a vast glacial valley on Greenland’s west coast. On arrival, transfer by Zodiac to your ice-class expedition vessel, which will be your base as you explore some of the remote landscapes of the High Arctic.

Set sail southwest through spectacular Kangerlussuaq Fjord, one of the world’s longest fjord systems, where mountains, glaciers and striking turquoise meltwater create an impressive introduction to Greenland. As you journey towards the open sea, cross the Arctic Circle and watch the wilderness unfold around you, marking an exciting start to your expedition.

Group flights from Toronto to Kangerlussuaq are available at an additional cost. Please enquire for full details and alternative departure airports.

Kangerlussuatsiaq Fjord (Evighedsfjorden)
2Day

Kangerlussuatsiaq Fjord (Evighedsfjorden)

This morning we’ll explore the immense Kangerlussuatsiaq Fjord, also known by its Danish name, Evighedsfjorden, meaning “the fjord of eternity.” The name feels especially fitting here, where towering cliffs, waterfalls and great walls of ice create a landscape that seems to stretch endlessly into the distance.

Taking to the water by Zodiac, you’ll cruise beneath dramatic rock faces and active glaciers, with the chance to witness ice calving into the fjord. All around, chunks of glacial ice drift across the water in shifting shades of blue, white and silver, making this a wonderfully atmospheric day of Arctic exploration.

Nuuk
3Day

Nuuk

Today we arrive in Nuuk, Greenland’s colourful capital, where brightly painted houses and striking modern architecture sit between the sea and the dramatic backdrop of Sermitsiaq, or Saddle Mountain. This is a fascinating place to explore on foot, with the harbour, galleries and public spaces offering a lively introduction to contemporary life in Greenland.

As you wander through the city, you’ll discover how deeply Inuit culture continues to shape everyday life, from local food and art to music, storytelling and community traditions. Nuuk blends old and new in a way that feels distinctly Arctic, making it a rewarding stop before the expedition continues south and west.

At Sea - Davis Strait
4Day

At Sea - Davis Strait

Today we cross the Davis Strait, the broad stretch of ocean separating Greenland from Labrador. Keep watch from the deck for passing whales and seabirds as the ship continues west, with wide open sea and changing light creating a peaceful backdrop to the journey.

Time on board also brings the chance to learn more about the regions ahead. Inuit cultural educators, scientists, artists and historians will share stories, knowledge and perspectives on Arctic landscapes, wildlife and communities, adding greater depth to the expedition as you make your way towards Labrador.

Torngat Mountains National Park, NL, Canada
5 - 8Days

Torngat Mountains National Park, NL, Canada

Our next adventure takes us deep into Torngat Mountains National Park where we will spend around four days exploring one of Canada’s most remote and spectacular wilderness regions. Here, sheer mountains rise directly from deep fjords, while broad stretches of tundra and glacial valleys create a landscape of extraordinary scale and solitude. Over the coming days, you’ll explore this remarkable area with Inuit hosts, gaining a deeper understanding of a land shaped by thousands of years of knowledge, tradition and connection.

Time in the Torngats may include Zodiac cruising, shore landings and guided exploration, with each day revealing a different side of this vast protected region. Wildlife sightings are always unpredictable, but there may be opportunities to spot polar bears along the coast, as well as other Arctic species. Co-managed by Inuit, the park protects both its natural environment and its rich cultural heritage, making these days a powerful and memorable highlight of the expedition.

Hebron
9Day

Hebron

Today we step ashore at Hebron, a former Moravian mission with a powerful and deeply moving history. In the 1950s, Inuit families living here were forcibly relocated, leaving a lasting impact that is still remembered across Nunatsiavut today. During your visit, you’ll see the preserved mission church and learn more about the community that once thrived here.

You’ll also hear stories from descendants of those who were displaced and visit the commemorative plaque that honours both loss and resilience. Hebron remains an important place of return, where families continue to hunt, fish and maintain connections to their ancestral homeland, making this a poignant day of reflection and cultural understanding.

Nunatsiavut Community
10Day

Nunatsiavut Community

Today we come ashore in a Nunatsiavut community, where daily life, history and Inuit culture are closely connected to the land and sea. Set against the dramatic Labrador coastline, this is a chance to spend time within a living community and gain a more personal understanding of life in this remote part of Canada.

As you explore, you may meet local artisans, hear traditional songs and learn more about Inuit self-governance, cultural renewal and the strength of community ties. Surrounded by rugged coastal hills and ancient rock formations, the visit offers an engaging insight into the traditions, creativity and contemporary identity of Inuit Labrador.

Labrador Coast
11 - 12Days

Labrador Coast

Over the next two days we continue along the wild Labrador coast, where towering headlands, sheltered coves and forested valleys create an ever-changing landscape. This remote shoreline has supported Inuit, Innu and settler communities for generations, with the sea shaping daily life, travel and tradition.

Guided hikes and Zodiac excursions will offer opportunities to explore some of these historic shores more closely. Along the way, you may discover small outports and cultural sites that recall Labrador’s fishing heritage, when harbours bustled with schooners and the seasonal cod fishery. Together, these days reveal both the rugged beauty of the coast and the enduring relationship between its people and the sea.

L'Anse aux Meadows
13Day

L'Anse aux Meadows

Today we arrive at L'Anse aux Meadows, set at the northern tip of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America, offering a fascinating glimpse into a chapter of history dating back around a thousand years.

As you explore, you’ll walk among grassy archaeological remains and reconstructed sod buildings while learning how Norse voyagers once lived here. The site’s discoveries, together with clues from the sagas, help bring this remarkable story to life and reveal the significance of one of the earliest known encounters between Europeans and Indigenous peoples in North America.

Northeast Newfoundland
14Day

Northeast Newfoundland

Your final day onboard will see us follow the Labrador Current along Newfoundland’s rugged northeast coast, passing a landscape of rocky headlands and small fishing communities shaped by generations of life beside the sea. These cold, nutrient-rich waters once supported one of the world’s great cod fisheries, drawing settlers to establish communities along this dramatic shoreline.

As we continue south, keep watch for whales and seabirds feeding offshore, while on land the region’s maritime heritage remains strongly woven into everyday life. This is a coast where wildlife, history and long-standing seafaring traditions come together against a backdrop of wild Atlantic scenery.

St. John’s, NL, Canada - Disembark
15Day

St. John’s, NL, Canada - Disembark

This morning we arrive in St. John’s, the colourful capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, set around one of the world’s great natural harbours. Framed by steep hills and the narrow entrance known as the Narrows, this historic city provides a memorable final backdrop to your expedition.

After breakfast, it will be time to disembark and begin your onward journey, taking with you the memories of Greenland, Labrador and the remote Arctic landscapes explored along the way. Please enquire about flight options for your journey home.
